I was very impressed with Monica Campbell. She was professional, very knowledgeable and honest and gave me a lot of information to prepare me for naturalization. She kept me up to date with the progress and process of my situation and accompanied me to the successful immigration interview. I really appreciated Monica's kindness and compassion as she was very supportive several months after my husband had passed away. I highly recommend her.

My experience with Monica exceeded my expectations. I had limited knowledge on how to move forward with my mothers estate after her passing. She was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all the questions I had related to my mothers will. She also helped me to make crucial decisions concerning her estate. She truly wants to get everything accomplished in a timely manner and with the utmost care. I am looking forward to Monica updating my will so that everything is clearly spelled out.

I am so pleased to have Amber to represent me in any healthcare issue. She handled a small business/healthcare group to solo practice issue like a professional despite having to oppose a personal injury attorney masquerading as a healthcare attorney. It was money well spent, and the issue was resolved within a month!

Tim represented me in a complex case where the employer refused to honor an employment contract. The company hired one of the big firms downtown, and spent more money with them trying to delay the case than it would have cost to just honor the contract. In employment cases the company has vastly more resources than the individual. It is critical for individuals to select an attorney that knows how to, and has been effective at, dealing with large companies and big law firms. Tim guided my case through the process, and consistently triumphed over the big firm and the big companies resources. The companies attorneys focused on legal tricks and delays, rather than the merits of the case. Tim was able to cut through all this and end up with a very favorable outcome. Tim has a quiet and unassuming style that gets results. He cares about righting wrongs, is willing and able to stand up to the big guys, and get results for his clients. Tim was able to look at my case, quickly determine the merits, and develop an approach to win over a much larger legal firm and a company willing to spend large amounts of money on the case. In employment or contract cases the company has vastly more resources than an individual employee. Some companies are willing to use their resources to 'win at any cost', and some legal firms are happy to take the companies money and try to outlast an employees resources. Tim is effective in dealing with these issues, and knows how to focus on the merits of the case and win. I have known and worked with a number of attorneys. Tim Bennett is one of the good guys. He is honest, caring, and focused on getting results for the client. I recommend Tim Bennet as a top choice when selecting an attorney.

Tim Bennett won my five year old case against the VA medical center. Two other attorneys started my case but gave up when federal attorneys wore them down. Mr. Bennett took my case and started an exhaustive discovery phase which helped him come to the conclusion that he could beat these government attorneys in court. After several years we had our day in federal court. The jury trial lasted a week. Unanimously the jury concluded I had been wrongly discharged and deserved several years back pay. One of the jurors came up to Mr. Bennett after our win and asked for his card, stating, "If I ever need an attorney I want to hire you." The final court judgment was for about a half million dollars (this included the award for attorney fees). While the facts of my case may have favored a victory, several attorneys refused to even look at the facts of my case. And as I already said, two attorneys gave up on my case after taking it. It took Mr. Bennett to do the hard work of discover and win my case before a jury. Mr. Bennett used professionally done displays and graphics which made it easy for the jury to understand complicated facts. He used expert financial witnesses to prove the government was lying about their stated reasons for my discharge. He produced documentation showing that the government made promises to employees that they had no intention of honoring (our smoking guns). And when the government tried to use witness lists to intimidate us, he called their bluff by thoroughly discrediting their witnesses to the point that the government decided not to even call these witnesses. Winning this case significantly changed my life. I not only regained a great deal of my self worth, but the win improved the finances of my family significantly. This win will significantly impact the rest of my life and I will always be thankful to Mr. Bennett for all his hard work.

I can't say how much I'm thankful for having Mr Randall Wolfe as my Auterny. Randall and Charis helped me like my own family. They stood for my rights when I was miserable and so weak, much more than my expectations. They were a blessing in my life.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lake Oswego, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
