I came to Peter to get help with my pending divorce after a disastrous start with another lawyer. Yes, his fees are high, but I feel like I paid for the best and got it. He is efficient, and I never felt like he was padding the bill. He might dictate a letter and have his assistant type it up for a total charge of 30 minutes, whereas a less experienced attorney would charge one or two hours to write a similar document. Peter demonstrated excellent knowledge and experience. Most importantly, he has a strong personality. I don't want a lawyer who just does what I say. I want one who can explain to me the situation I'm in and the options I have, whether I want to hear it or not, and then let me choose my path.

When entering his firm you realize your dealing with an exceptionally old practice. Peter Glazer had no warmth and a very unwelcoming demeanor. He was not very responsive, messy, disheveled, disorganized and rude. I would never recommend.

I went to Mr. Glazer for a consultation last month. During my consultation he made me feel like his opinion was all that mattered, he talked over me constantly and would get up several times during our meeting and walk out. I asked the assistant where he was going. He seemed puzzled too. I found it to be very unprofessional and rude. I was very shocked he conducted things this way. I ended up finding an attorney who wasn't pompous and rude.

I went to him for divorce advice. He was VERY knowledgeable, however he originally told me that the consultation should be about an hour long at $350.00 an hour. When I went to see him there was a point where he was giving me information that I told him I didn't need to know at the time, however he continued to tell me it anyway. Because of this and the fact that he liked to talk, my consultation appointment ended up being almost 2 hours long. I walked away having paid over $600.00 which I struggled to make up for months afterward!!! 4 months later when I had made my final decision to file for divorce, he would not return my phone calls personally (where I had talked to him on the phone easily twice before my consultation). Finally after 3 unreturned phone calls I spoke to his secretary who informed me that not only may he now be too busy to handle my case, but also that his fees had gone up to $395 and hour. Digusted, I had to start my search for a new attorney all over again!!!

I had just been through a hip implant revision due to the first one being recalled. After my first visit with Keith, I knew I had made the right choice. There are so many ways to describe good people, all of them apply to Keith. We agreed up front that I would carry-on with my life without much interaction with Keith, he would just do what was necessary to get a good outcome. And good outcome it was. Good numbers, short time frame, and life goes on.

I was injured in a slip and fall case back in 2014. When the insurance company would not quit harassing me, I decided I needed an attorney. I live in Seattle, so I started there. I called every attorney that was also licensed in Oregon (the accident happened in Oregon). I must have spoken to at least 15 attorneys who laughed me off because it was a slip and fall. They didn't want to hear about it, even when I knew they didn't have to prove liability, just damages. Some attorney in Oregon referred me to Jose. He listened to me, heard me tell him how liability was already clear and that damages was the only issue that needed to be resolved. Because of this, I got a settlement that was more than any slip and fall that I had ever seen. In fact, I have never seen a slip and fall win. If you have a case that you think will never be won, call Jose, and tell him that Terry sent you.

Jose was excellent in handling my auto accident case. He was very knowledgeable and personable throughout the process, and was always available to answer questions and help me navigate through the complex nature of my case. His team in the office was also stellar, and made the whole process go smooth. Although I of course wish I was not hit in a auto accident and hurt, I'm glad I had Jose on my side through the deposition and mediation, and that I was able to avoid going to court. I was satisfied with the settlement I received. I would highly recommend Jose to anyone looking for a personal injury lawyer.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lake Oswego, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
