I cannot give a more enthusiactic and supportive recommnedation for Jeni Feinberg. I was arrested and jailed with several Measure 11 Sexual Assault Charges. Needless to say, I was in a state of hopelessness at the possibility that I could potentially spend the rest of my life in prison. I knew I was innocent but my accuser, who had a history of bringing these types of charges against men, had create and manipulated the evidence so much so that law enforcement had been completely duped into thinking I was guilty. My family and friends rallied together and began to search for the best representation they could find. In an exhaustive 2 week inquiry of potential lawyers, every single person or group came to the same conclusion; all roads led to Jeni Feinberg. I met with Jeni and my intention was to interview several lawyers that particular week, After only 5 minutes of our initial meeting; I knew that Jeni Feinberg was the best of all the potential lawyers. Additionally, my friends had spoken to at least 2 other lawyers from outside Southern Oregon who stated that we should interview with Jeni first before hiring them! Jeni Feinberg is so well respected that once it was announced that we had retained her as my attorney, my Fund Raising site overflowed with donations. In just about a week we raised about $20,000 and after the bail was reduced from $1 Million to $500,000, we raised the $50,000 Bail bond in a matter if hours. We ultimately raised $40,000 for attorney fees and had to return about $25,000 for the bail bond! People believed in me but they also trusted and believed that they were investing in the best council money could retain. In our 2nd meeting Mrs. Feinberg stated that she "had been thinking about my case over the weekend"! I then felt secured that I had chosen someone who would be devoted to my case and my cause. Initially I met with a Public Defender who told me it would take about 3 weeks to get a bail reduction hearing; Jeni got the hearing within only 4 days after I had engaged her as my lawyer! The judge wanted to attached a monitoring device to my bail release. Because of my unusual work schedule; Jeni fault vigorously with the Judge to have that requirement removed. Jeni and her investigative team thwarted at least 4 attempts by the accuser who attempted to either have me rearrested based on false evidence or to have the case reopened or me recharged. I felt fiercely protected! Jeni Feinberg and her investigative team were relentless in pursuing the truth and gathering the evidence for my case. And she seemed to either always be available when I needed to speak to her or at the least return my phone call or email inquiries within a very short time. I never felt forgotten or abandoned. And I know for a fact that all her clients felt the same way! When the evidence that they had gathered was presented to the District Attorney's Office; it became evident and so overwhelmingly obvious that the accuser was really the "criminal" in this case that the DA dismissed all the charges and expunged my record. I cannot say enough about Jeni. She was my counselor, advisor, listened to my frustration; kept me confident toward a positive outcome. I staked my life on Jeni Feinberg and I would suggest anyone to do the same. Justice is often a scary, uncertain, sometimes unfair and ,many times, a tragic experience. In order to give yourself the best opportunity to overcome these challenges toward a fair and just outcome; you need the best. Jeni Feinberg is the best! Even if the outcome is not ideal, I have no doubt that you will always feel that Jeni had given her full heart and knowledge to your case.

I can't thank Ray enough for having my family's back throughout this process. He is skillful and thorough, and was very patient as he helped me navigate difficult decisions. He ensured that my daughter was in a safe and nurturing environment- I don't know how I could have done this without him.He is also quite funny and enjoyable to talk to, which was refreshing in the midst of such an unpleasant process.

I could not have chosen a better attorney for my Bankruptcy. She was direct and easy to understand. She did everything she said she would. Her staff was very helpful and responsive. Penny went the extra mile when things got complicated. If you are considering filing for Bankruptcy - and can handle the truth about your situation - and want it HANDLED.......I highly recommend Penny Lee Austin. (She is a dog lover - which of course makes her extra special!)

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Medford, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
