After my husband was tragically hit and killed by a commercial truck, I didn't know what to do. A professional contact recommended I call Thuemmel Uhle & Eder. In my first meeting, I met with all of the partners. While David Eder was the lead, his other partners (Andrew, Ben and Joel) all participated. I could tell that they understood the law, the complexities and were ready to get to work on my family's behalf. As I dealt with the loss of my husband, my lawyers systematically put together the case, including fights over available coverage. I could not have asked for a better group of aggressive legal minds in my corner.

I'm incredibly grateful for the exceptional support provided by the legal team after my car accident in July 2021. Their expertise and dedication were truly remarkable. From the initial consultation to the final resolution, they navigated every aspect of the case with professionalism and precision. Their guidance not only provided me with peace of mind but also instilled confidence in the process. It was evident that they genuinely cared about my well-being and were committed to securing the best possible outcome for me. I cannot recommend their services highly enough to anyone in need of legal representation. Thank you for everything!

I was referred to Thuemmel Uhle & Eder by another law firm. The lawyers at TU&E are experienced. The lawyers handle the legal work, not paralegals. They answer emails. They take phone calls. They meet to go over the pros and cons of my case, including the medical options. Nothing was rushed. They strategically fought the negligent driver's insurance company and then systematically grinded away at my underinsured motorist carrier.

I read good reviews about the lawyers at Thuemmel Uhle and Eder. Honestly, it’s hard to know based on reviews if the lawyers good or not. In retrospect, I wish I had hired Thuemmel Uhle and Eder right after the accident. I waited because I thought I didn’t need a lawyer. I was rear ended. It wasn’t my fault. But the other driver’s insurance company was not even willing to pay all of my medical bills. I would have never guessed that I needed lawyers ready to take my case to trial, but that’s what happened. Ben, Joel, David and Andrew clearly cared about my case. My lawyers put in hours of time with me to get me ready. We had meetings during the week and on weekends. Despite all the attention on my case, I was nervous about going to trial. At trial Ben and Joel were confident, calm and collected. They were engaging with the jury. In comparison, the insurance defense lawyer seemed flustered and didn’t seem as prepared. When I testified, it felt like I was having a conversation with Ben. He made me feel at ease as he guided through the accident and how it affected my life. My fiancé felt the same way when he testified. Joel’s cross examination of the insurance defense’s orthopedic surgeon was like a masterclass in medicine. The lawyers at Thuemmel Uhle and Eder were honest, experienced and backed up their reputation in and out of the courtroom. They have so much trial experience it was like they could see things before it happened. There always seemed to be a plan in place. I don’t think I would have won without fantastic lawyers in my corner. In addition to being wonderful lawyers, they were also wonderful people. I highly recommend all the lawyers in the firm.

Initially, I was working with a different firm in Portland after my car crash. I was a bit unhappy about the communication so decided to part ways and find a different firm to work with. I spoke to some doctors about what was going on and they suggested I call David Eder at Thuemmel Uhle & Eder. When David met with me, he instantly had a plan. I knew I had made the right decision to switch. Within a few months, my entire case had been turned around. I know David, Andrew, Ben and Joel (all partners at the firm) worked extensively setting up consultations with my medical providers and setting my case up correctly. At the end, I am walking away with 9 times what the first firm told me was their target goal. I was in disbelief and knew that my decision to work with David and his Partners was the right one. I would encourage anyone injured in a motor vehicle accident to call Thuemmel Uhle & Eder. They will ensure that you are taken care of properly.

I went to Justin Baxter of Baxter and Baxter after an internet search, for help with problem with a debt collector. He treated me with respect and was very knowledgeable. He made sure that i knew my rights, responsibilities, how the case would be handled, possible outcomes, and possible risks. Although I hope to never be in need of his services again, If the need arose, I would contact him and his firm without hesitation. I would definitely reccomend him to anyone in need of help with a debt collector.

Ryan Scott is an absolute legend. I called him because he was recommended by a friend and gave him everything I had. He took it upon himself to contact the right people and figure out what my options are, all before discussing giving him a dime. Truly a man who cares about justice and doing the right thing. I can’t recommend him enough.

Jennifer has to be hands down the most amazing person I’ve ever dealt with in the legal world. I don’t know if I can find the words to express my gratitude for her. She was so professional, knowledgeable, understanding, and most of all she kicked butt in the courtroom. I would recommend her to handle anyone’s case in a heartbeat.

Susan Ford helped me prepare for a small claims case (where I represented my company) for a customer that sued us for nearly $5,000. Before hiring Susan I had checked with two other lawyers but I did not feel confident. Susan helped with both the mediation and the final court hearing. With her knowledge in my brain, I was able to make a clear and coherent explanation of events. The judge decided the case in my favor. I recommend Res Nova for anyone dealing with business issues in Oregon.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Portland, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
