I retained Mr. Kline's office after being hit by a care while riding my motorcycle. While trying to heal from my injuries, my wife and I were worried how I would get my medical bills handled and since the driver had little insurance how we were going to handle this traumatic situation. Mr. Kline took the time to drive to my house (rather than me go to his office) and explained to my wife and I how he thought we should go about getting all of the legal business with this crash. Along with his paralegal Rosie Key I was constantly informed on updates on my case. Also each step along the way they informed me on what would likely happen next. If you find yourself in a similar situation, do not hesitate to give them a call. I could not have been more satisfied with everything they did for me on my case.

I, and my two young daughters, were injured in a car accident caused by a reckless driver, and I asked family and friends for recommendations for a personal injury attorney. I received some personal recommendations, but ultimately chose Kline Law because of the great reviews that I’d read, and they were absolutely spot-on. After our experience with Rob Kline, I would never work with anyone else, and would recommend him very highly (and have) to anyone in need of his services. He and Rosie are a rock-solid team that know how to get things done and have the knowledge to facilitate the best outcome. At all times, I felt like we were a priority and that they were doing their best (and their best is very impressive) on our behalf. They always kept in communication, my questions were always answered promptly, and I never had any doubts as to the honesty, integrity, and strong ethics of Kline Law throughout the process. There aren’t enough stars to choose 10, but that’s what they get from my family and I.

I had a personal injury accident while riding as a passenger on a motorcycle. I was referred to Rob from a relative and was immediately helped with the ins and outs of my case. He was compassionate and put my concerns to rest as we went they each step of my case. He was through with his investigation. Rob is very calm, direct, and through. The kind of lawyer you need in your side. Not a hurried “let’s get just what we can now” kind of lawyer! Rob works for your best interests and that’s what I got! Thanks Rob!

Working with Rob and Rosie was an absolute pleasure. Although this process seemed daunting, I left conversations with their team feeling comforted and confident. Rob and Rosie are incredibly responsive, knowledgeable and transparent within their practice. I could not have navigated through this time without them.

My daughter was involved in a very serious car crash last year in Oregon. Coming from Michigan I received Rob Kline's name as highly recommended. That was one of the best decisions we made through the long ordeal of her hospital care and recovery! Rob is NOT the kind of attorney that is strictly interested in a monetary grab! He has spent significant amount of time with my daughter as well as with us, the parents. He was very personable and patient through the trials and tribulations and helped us regain our focus as we came out of the initial shock of the fallout. He was truly helpful above and beyond our expectations. He stayed the course with us through the many turns of the case, with respect and sensitivity to our situation as a whole. In summary, Robert Kline provided the best kind of help when we needed it the most and delivered big on the results! Highly recommended!

I went to Justin Baxter of Baxter and Baxter after an internet search, for help with problem with a debt collector. He treated me with respect and was very knowledgeable. He made sure that i knew my rights, responsibilities, how the case would be handled, possible outcomes, and possible risks. Although I hope to never be in need of his services again, If the need arose, I would contact him and his firm without hesitation. I would definitely reccomend him to anyone in need of help with a debt collector.

Ryan Scott is an absolute legend. I called him because he was recommended by a friend and gave him everything I had. He took it upon himself to contact the right people and figure out what my options are, all before discussing giving him a dime. Truly a man who cares about justice and doing the right thing. I can’t recommend him enough.

Jennifer has to be hands down the most amazing person I’ve ever dealt with in the legal world. I don’t know if I can find the words to express my gratitude for her. She was so professional, knowledgeable, understanding, and most of all she kicked butt in the courtroom. I would recommend her to handle anyone’s case in a heartbeat.

Susan Ford helped me prepare for a small claims case (where I represented my company) for a customer that sued us for nearly $5,000. Before hiring Susan I had checked with two other lawyers but I did not feel confident. Susan helped with both the mediation and the final court hearing. With her knowledge in my brain, I was able to make a clear and coherent explanation of events. The judge decided the case in my favor. I recommend Res Nova for anyone dealing with business issues in Oregon.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Portland, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
