Let me tell you one thing, if there was an option for 7-star I would've picked it. I’m incredibly grateful to have had Jonathan Corey by my side during my divorce—a process that was far more complex and emotionally draining than I ever anticipated. From day one, Jonathan’s communication was clear, consistent, and compassionate. He patiently explained every step of the legal journey, answered my (many) questions without hesitation, and kept me grounded when the stakes felt overwhelming. My situation involved defending against unfounded allegations across multiple fronts, including interactions with DHS and the civil court system. Jonathan’s attention to detail was remarkable. He meticulously reviewed every document, flagged inconsistencies in the opposing side’s claims, and built a strategy that prioritized facts over drama. What impressed me most was his calm, steady professionalism. Even when the process dragged on longer than expected, Jonathan never rushed or cut corners. He reassured me that patience would allow the truth to surface—and he was right. Jonathan’s ability to balance assertiveness with respect for the process made all the difference. He never resorted to unnecessary conflict, but he also never backed down from defending my rights. His updates were frequent and straightforward, and he always made sure I understood my options without sugarcoating the challenges. What truly sets Jonathan apart, though, is his integrity. He treated my case with the care and urgency of someone fighting for a close friend, not just a client. By the end, his dedication paid off: the falsehoods were exposed, and I could finally move forward with peace of mind. If you’re facing a high-conflict divorce or legal battle, I can’t recommend Jonathan Corey enough. He’s the kind of attorney who fights tirelessly for fairness while staying grounded in what’s ethical and real. Thank you, Jonathan, for turning a nightmare into a resolution that protected my rights—and my sanity. You’re a rare find in this field.

Jonathan Corey was a great divorce lawyer to have on my side. I went through a tough divorce, was dealing with a large marital estate and a long term marriage. I was really worried about all of the complexities of our estate dealing with real estate, stocks, retirement accounts, precious metals, etc., not to mention children and all of the other things that have to be dealt with. Jonathon was a great communicator and dug into understand all aspects of the divorce. He was a real advocate for me and really helped me get the best case scenario for my situation. He was also very responsive and had amazing professionalism throughout the entire process. If you want someone that is on your side, cares about what happens to you and your children and gets you the best possible representation with the best possible outcome you don't need to look any further. Thank you Jonathan and the Corey Law Group!

I had a disappointing and expensive experience with Mr. Sollars. He frequently ignored my communications yet charged me for emails and calls that reminded him of tasks that weren't addressed or completed for extended periods of time. He often appeared stretched too thin and indecisive. Despite the ongoing reminders, there were long periods where no action was taken, yet he continued to bill. Overall, very little was accomplished, and I ended up with significant legal fees without the results I expected. He also advised some things that harmed my case. I would recommend looking elsewhere for legal representation. Now that my case is over, I’ll move on, but will be paying the financial and real life costs for a long time.

Ryan Scott is the best defense lawyer. After our first meeting I knew for a fact that I was in the best hands I could be in. He’s very intelligent and what sets him apart from the rest is not only his expertise but that he cares a lot. I’m so happy that he took my case. He got me out of jail when the public defenders didn’t want to even try. Now I am not behind any bars. If you’re looking up lawyers to represent you, stop searching now and hire Ryan you will not regret it. Thank you Ryan!

Jennifer was court appointed to me, and I feel fortunate to have had her assigned to my case. Her investigator was such a positive player on her team. I was told that Jennifer was a “Bulldog” and would work hard for me. She did just that! Having serious charges I was faced with.. my gal got my caseDismissed! Honestly she changed my life!

After determining that the only viable option for us in a dispute with our neighbor, was hiring an attorney, we found Mr. Hammond thru search engines and reviews. Our choice to go with Mr. Hammond fit our situation well. Mr. Hammond had a very calming and reassuring presence, that helped greatly with navigating us through this process. He was honest with what to expect and came up with some very creative and resourceful options for us to consider. His knowledge and understanding was greatly appreciated. We would have him represent us again, if needed. S. Schroeder, Oregon

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Portland, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
