I can't thank Daniel Snyder and his team enough for helping me through the most traumatizing experience in my career. Living with a disability is already difficult itself, but then to have an employer that discriminates against you is devastating. I worked for a public agency that denied my ADA accommodations and engaged in unfair labor practices. I was chronically treated differently, unfairly and badly by my employer and after filing a BOLI complaint, they retaliated against me leading to my termination. Daniel Snyder came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Feeling hopeless, I scheduled a consultation with Mr. Snyder. Immediately I felt supported and I knew he was the right attorney to help me. Dan is a straight shooter and follows through with what he says. He was not intimidated to represent me against a public agency of attorneys. He is confident and will go above and beyond the call of duty leaving no rock unturned. Because of his hard work and excellent legal tactics I was able to get justice! Thank you Dan and team for your support. I absolutely encourage anyone that is seeking an attorney that will have your back to choose, DANIEL SNYDER!

I was enrolled and through 2 years of my graduate program for a Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree while in the final term, registered to graduate and with a 3.24 GPA. I was ready to walk across the stage to complete my life's dream and then become a therapist. I was kicked out abruptly without reason or incident, and it was shortly after a medical event. I immediately started the search for a lawyer and connected with Daniels assistant, Paul, who was right away able to connect Dan with me, who took down all the relevant details. Nearly two years later, Dan has personally represented me and took my life back from those that injured me. Throughout the entire time of representing me, Dan would personally email me within seconds to minutes of my communication, it was incredible. He was confident and knowledgeable, organized and tactful and intelligent, absolutely the caliber of person who should have a role dealing with laws and justice. The two parties that were against me both had no choice but to settle, and I am now living my life more healthy and happy than I have been in many years, and I owe much of this to Dan and his law offices.

I did not know at the time hiring Daniel Snyders law firm would be one of the best decision I have made in my life. I was recommended to this firm by someone I could trust. Unsure and unclear of my case. Dan’s firm took my case and went to work. Never did they give up or throw the towel in. My case went on for over four years. This firm undoubtably is proficient and a master class in law. I would not hesitate to higher this firm. My time was not wasted just to get a billable hour. Very direct and to the point. If there is anyone that knows employment law it is Daniel Synder law firm!

After 13 years of working for the world's largest pharmaceutical company, I was laid off for reasons that were ridiculous. After meeting with Dan and discussing what happened, he came up with several avenues for my case. I felt that Dan would listen to me and have my best interest like no other attorney. Litigation took four years and my trial was two weeks. During the trial, Dan Snyder was amazing at presenting the case to the jurors and questioning the witnesses. The Defendant had 5 attorneys from the West and East Coast present at the trial and over a dozen involved throughout the litigation. Dan was able to impress the Judge and jury without having an army of attorneys at our table. In the end, we did win the case and I just cried because justice had been served! I would recommend Dan Snyder to anyone that wants the best and most competent attorney for employment litigation.

Ryan Scott is an absolute legend. I called him because he was recommended by a friend and gave him everything I had. He took it upon himself to contact the right people and figure out what my options are, all before discussing giving him a dime. Truly a man who cares about justice and doing the right thing. I can’t recommend him enough.

Jennifer has to be hands down the most amazing person I’ve ever dealt with in the legal world. I don’t know if I can find the words to express my gratitude for her. She was so professional, knowledgeable, understanding, and most of all she kicked butt in the courtroom. I would recommend her to handle anyone’s case in a heartbeat.

Susan Ford helped me prepare for a small claims case (where I represented my company) for a customer that sued us for nearly $5,000. Before hiring Susan I had checked with two other lawyers but I did not feel confident. Susan helped with both the mediation and the final court hearing. With her knowledge in my brain, I was able to make a clear and coherent explanation of events. The judge decided the case in my favor. I recommend Res Nova for anyone dealing with business issues in Oregon.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Portland, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
