From the moment I met Jessica, she was professional and a clear advocate for me. I couldn't have asked for a better lawyer to represent me. Throughout our 2+ years working together, she was respectful, caring, knowledgeable, cost-conscious, and clear in her communication. I always knew my options and she didn't hesitate to walk me through them again when I got overwhelmed or give me the time I needed to think about what I wanted to do. I felt fully prepared any time we would go in to negotiations and knew that she was there to get the best outcome for me and my child. Plus, to top it off, she has a good sense of humor, which made the whole process of this high-conflict divorce bearable. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, Jessica is the lawyer you want on your side.

From the moment I talked to Jessica on the phone for my initial consultation, to the moment I received the notice of termination of attorney/client relationship following my divorce, I felt heard, empowered, and respected. Some of the very first things I noticed with Jessica and her team was their promptness and professionalism; they responded same day, sometimes literally within minutes/hours of an email or phone call, which was so important to me in order to keep the process moving forward in a timely manner. They operated like a well-oiled machine, but in a personable way! Reliable, objective, knowledgeable, calm.. all of which I wanted and needed going through a divorce. They were efficient with their communication, which seemed intentional and it made me feel that they were mindful about their time and resources and the eventual cost to me as their client. I can genuinely say that Jessica was not only a vital part of my divorce from a legal standpoint, but she helped me mentally and emotionally by making the most unpleasant and stressful period of my life a little less so because of her support. I knew she had my best interest in mind and that brought me moments of peace and gratitude during an otherwise very turbulent time. Can't recommend Jessica enough!! I will be forever grateful!

Jessica was recommended to me by U.S. Department of State's office as one of the experienced lawyers dealing in international family cases, and I have many times since thought what stroke of luck or faith it was as I can not imagine having a better advocate and counsel on my side through what was not an easy legal process. From the very initial contact, Jessica showed that she was a real professional, fully analyzing all the aspects of the case and making sure that she can set aside time to you as a client, but once you have her on your side you simply constantly get amazed by who she is and what she can do! Through months of intensive work, she shifted her roles at need from a (1) professional and brilliant lawyer who has strategy well thought of, thinks few steps in advance, prepares, consults with other professionals and makes sure that the work done by her and her team is nothing short of exemplary, (2) consultant who lays out to you all possible scenarios and takes time to help you understand each step of legal process, helps you through decision process when decisions need to be made and does not promise what she can not back up, (3) personal counsel who always has your and your family's interest at heart, shows compassion when you need it and gives you strength at darkest times and when you loose faith and feel overwhelmed. Whatever problem we encountered she always faced them head on, not loosing the focus for a second, not running away from facing the opposing side when needed and fighting for me fiercely in the courtroom, but at all times still doing it respectfully and gracefully. I admire her dedication and hard work and would sincerely recommend to anyone needing a representation in a family case, of having Jessica and her team by your side, as I have really not seen better. She and her team showed respect at all times for our cultural differences and were always open to hear, understand and explain, always making sure I felt involved in the process. Through what was an undeniably the most difficult period of my life, Jessica's knowledgeable, factual, intelligent and fierce yet compassionate approach really helped me restore my faith in humanity and moral and justice and I will forever remain grateful for having had this kind of support and friend by my side...

There won’t be enough characters allowed for me to explain how amazing Jessica and her team are to work with. Choosing Jessica will be the best decision you make for your divorce, especially if it’s a high conflict one. Jessica pays very close attention to detail and with the high conflict divorce I went through, that was full of many lies, it was SO important to have someone like her that is very detail oriented. Jessica truly values her clients and wants the best for them. She believes in them and fights SO hard for what is right. She was my rock through my divorce. I was obviously knew to the process but she helped me each step of the way, making sure I understood what was going to happen. We did end up in court, for several days and Jessica rocked it in that courtroom. We were prepared and the judges appreciate someone who comes prepared, trust me! If you have kids involved in your divorce Jessica with work with you to come up with the best plan for them and you but always making sure your kids are safe, which is number one priority. At times I had moments I wanted to give up but she kept me focused and reminded me I can do hard things. It's importnant to have someone who believes in you and that is what Jessica will be for you. We were up against the worst of the worst and I know that no one but Jessica could have gotten us through what we went through together. From mediation to drug/alcohol reports to custody evaluator and court plus so much in between she held it together for us. Jessica AND her team will be in your corner to support you and make sure you get what you deserve. The outcome we got was exactly what we wanted and then some. I would and will always recommened Jessica. You will be very thankful you hired Jessica to represent you, I promise.

There just isn't enough positive adjectives to describe Jessica Flint as an attorney and person. Jessica helped direct me through the most difficult stage of my life with and I cannot thank her enough. She was my ultimate positive force. Jessica is not only brilliant, her compassion rivals her brilliance. She kept me focused when I desperately wanted to shut down. Jessica came highly recommended and her performance has exceeded all expectations. She is a truly wonderful person who is unmatched in her profession. I would recommend Jessica to any and all that are going through their most difficult time. She will take care of you and set you up to be in the most optimal situation possible. She will be there from the beginning through the end and you will certainly feel heard, understood and thankful. Jessica is relentless in her defense of her clients and she makes you feel like you are protected and cared for. I came into this process with zero understanding of how it works. Jessica simplified things that were difficult for me to understand and took the time to ensure I was comfortable and knowledgeable about all details. Her ability to understand human interaction and the needs of her clients is exemplary. Simply put, Jessica can make your darkest day much brighter. She will lead you out the other side. She is a truly unrivaled attorney and most of all an unrivaled human. I am so thankful for my experience with Jessica and her team. They truly are the best of the best. If I could rate her a 10 out of 5, I would with no hesitation. She is one of the most impressive people I have ever met in my life and all of her clients are lucky she chose this as her profession as she would be the most excellent at whatever she chose to do. Given the opportunity, hire Jessica as your attorney and you will be very happy with your choice. She is excellence personified.

Ryan Scott is an absolute legend. I called him because he was recommended by a friend and gave him everything I had. He took it upon himself to contact the right people and figure out what my options are, all before discussing giving him a dime. Truly a man who cares about justice and doing the right thing. I can’t recommend him enough.

Jennifer has to be hands down the most amazing person I’ve ever dealt with in the legal world. I don’t know if I can find the words to express my gratitude for her. She was so professional, knowledgeable, understanding, and most of all she kicked butt in the courtroom. I would recommend her to handle anyone’s case in a heartbeat.

Susan Ford helped me prepare for a small claims case (where I represented my company) for a customer that sued us for nearly $5,000. Before hiring Susan I had checked with two other lawyers but I did not feel confident. Susan helped with both the mediation and the final court hearing. With her knowledge in my brain, I was able to make a clear and coherent explanation of events. The judge decided the case in my favor. I recommend Res Nova for anyone dealing with business issues in Oregon.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Portland, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
