Mr. Levine is exemplary in his field. He was referred to me by another attorney who couldn't take my case and I couldn't be happier with the results. Incredibly knowledgeable, works well on the fly and is extremely compassionate. My case was complicated and took almost the full 2 year max to settle. With Mr. Levine in my corner, I was able to get the maximum settlement allowed for my particular case without having to go to trial. What a relief! Because my case took so long, I feel it's important to note that Mr. Levine was always in contact with developments or just to check in to see how I was healing. The majority of you reading this review probably haven't been in a car wreck that required counsel. He gives a great name to a profession that is often looked down upon. Mr. Levine cares and is truly in it for his clients' best interest. I couldn't be happier with the legal outcome due to Mr. Levine's work and compassion! He made my recovery bearable because I completely trusted him with my case.

Remarkable. Quite remarkable. He is professional and articulate. What can not be taken for granted is his incisive and intuitive thinking. As a practicing psychotherapist I was greatly impressed with his "people skills". There are listening techniques such as paraphrase and reflection etc. But, with Cameron, all this is fluid, natural and genuine. I believe it is authentic to his character to help people. He is both an ally and an advocate.

Cameron assisted me with my case for months without any compensation, instructed me on how to deal with the insurance company and then to let him know when they responded. He laid out exactly what was probably going to happen and it did. He was correct in all his projections on how the insurance company was going to respond. He asked for details, proceded to communciate with them and the outcome was very good, in fact excellent. I would highly recommend him not only on his expertise and knowledge but also on his professionalism.

Mr. Levine was recommended to me by another attorney when I was searching for someone to help me with my personal injury case (chipped tooth from a company's 'food' product). The manufacturer declined to pay for my dental work. Enter, Mr. Levine. This wasn't going to be a big payout and it was going to take a bit of Mr. Levine's time, but he was unbelievably courteous, helpful and willing. From our first conversation, I knew that he would investigate the issue and that I may or may collect on the claim, but Mr. Levine was going to do everything he could and I thoroughly believed him. In this kind of a situation all we want - as the general public - is hope, not false hope, but just hope and someone who is on our side, who cares. That's Mr. Levine in a nutshell. I know he was a busy man during the time he worked with me, but he always made me feel like my case was top shelf with him. He called, returned calls and emails, dealt with the manufacturer and, in the end, we settled - and the settlement was above and beyond my expectations. Understand, as I did, that I could just have easily been denied and lost in my attempt to settle the claim. Mr. Levine's knowledge of the law and knowledge of companies, the way they work, the way their people work was invaluable. In my case, his knowledge of Oregon law (how it applies to companies and individuals) came into play in a big way, as the out of state manufacturer clearly did not have the same knowledge - neither did their lawyers. Mr. Levine is outstanding. He's outstanding as a person and a professional. I don't just recommend him, I tell you to simply call him and find out for yourself. Mr. Levine is in a class by himself. I was lucky to be steered in his direction when I needed help. You will be too.

My wife and I contacted Cameron Levine, of Levin and Levine, LLP, when the retailer that we had purchased some furniture from refused to uphold their warranty. Mr. Levine was very knowledgeable, engaging, and expeditious in getting our problem resolved in a short period of time. At all times during the negotiations, he kept an open line of communication and answered all of our questions clearly and concisely. Mr. Levine continues to be open and receptive to any legal questions I have. I would highly recommend Levin and Levine, LLP services should you need them!

I went to Justin Baxter of Baxter and Baxter after an internet search, for help with problem with a debt collector. He treated me with respect and was very knowledgeable. He made sure that i knew my rights, responsibilities, how the case would be handled, possible outcomes, and possible risks. Although I hope to never be in need of his services again, If the need arose, I would contact him and his firm without hesitation. Ryan Scott is an absolute legend. I called him because he was recommended by a friend and gave him everything I had. He took it upon himself to contact the right people and figure out what my options are, all before discussing giving him a dime. Truly a man who cares about justice and doing the right thing. I can’t recommend him enough.

Jennifer has to be hands down the most amazing person I’ve ever dealt with in the legal world. I don’t know if I can find the words to express my gratitude for her. She was so professional, knowledgeable, understanding, and most of all she kicked butt in the courtroom. I would recommend her to handle anyone’s case in a heartbeat.

Susan Ford helped me prepare for a small claims case (where I represented my company) for a customer that sued us for nearly $5,000. Before hiring Susan I had checked with two other lawyers but I did not feel confident. Susan helped with both the mediation and the final court hearing. With her knowledge in my brain, I was able to make a clear and coherent explanation of events. The judge decided the case in my favor. I recommend Res Nova for anyone dealing with business issues in Oregon.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Portland, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
