Mr. Chen was suggested to me by a mutual friend. My friend stated if you want someone that cares about your needs and someone that listens to you and not treat like you don't matter. You would want to hire him, because he's the right person for you. My friend was absolutely correct, Mr. Chen is the right person for the Job. I have a very busy schedule and life; Mr. Chen kept me in the loop about everything that was going on about my case. I would strongly recommend him to whoever will listen. Not only a good attorney but a good caring human. Thank you for everything and all of your help...

Ben Chen has been nothing short of attentive and considerate when working my case, every email and call was met with a promt response, never a lack of communication between us about the case. He fought a 9 month battle with me and reassured me every step of the way I would highly reccomend him to anyone and everyone to fight in your corner.

Mr. Chen and his team are a blessing. I was injured at work, and as soon as I reported missed wages to my employer's Worker's Comp Insurance company shenanigans ensued. It was already a stressful time. I had never been unable to work because of an injury. Doctor appointments every week and Physical Therapy three times a week. The insurance company were difficult to get ahold of and did not appear interested in making payments to me. After it became clear that they were slow walking my claim I became nervous that I was going to get screwed over. My union rep recommended I reach out to Mr. Bin Chen. Mr. Chen is the real deal. I wasn't sure what to expect out of the process or what he would be able to do for me, I just knew I needed help. Insurance companies are very good at making people feel helpless and that's exactly how I felt. That stopped as soon as I left Bin's office. The insurance company didn't immediately stop with the games, but Mr. Chen and his team dealt with them for me, allowing me to focus on recovering and getting myself back to work. The process took several months but Bin and his team kept me up to speed at every step. Any questions I had were answered quickly and in full. Any time I called he made time for me. These are good people. Mr. Chen's experience and expertise were on full display as my case came to a close. He was able to give probabilities of outcomes as well as their timelines and he was spot on. He clearly is known and reputable to these insurance companies. He reached a settlement on my behalf that was beyond what I thought possible. I am so grateful for Bin and his team. I work a very physical job around a lot of dangerous equipment. Everyone should get to go home the way they came in but that doesn't always happen. When people break their bodies for a job then the Insurance company should hold up their end of the bargain. They didn't with me, but Mr. Chen and his team took on my case and made things right. I trust them and will definitely reach out again if, God forbid, I'm ever in this situation again.

I went to Justin Baxter of Baxter and Baxter after an internet search, for help with problem with a debt collector. He treated me with respect and was very knowledgeable. He made sure that i knew my rights, responsibilities, how the case would be handled, possible outcomes, and possible risks. Although I hope to never be in need of his services again, If the need arose, I would contact him and his firm without hesitation. I would definitely reccomend him to anyone in need of help with a debt collector.

Ryan Scott is the best defense lawyer. After our first meeting I knew for a fact that I was in the best hands I could be in. He’s very intelligent and what sets him apart from the rest is not only his expertise but that he cares a lot. I’m so happy that he took my case. He got me out of jail when the public defenders didn’t want to even try. Now I am not behind any bars. If you’re looking up lawyers to represent you, stop searching now and hire Ryan you will not regret it. Thank you Ryan!

Jennifer was court appointed to me, and I feel fortunate to have had her assigned to my case. Her investigator was such a positive player on her team. I was told that Jennifer was a “Bulldog” and would work hard for me. She did just that! Having serious charges I was faced with.. my gal got my caseDismissed! Honestly she changed my life!

After determining that the only viable option for us in a dispute with our neighbor, was hiring an attorney, we found Mr. Hammond thru search engines and reviews. Our choice to go with Mr. Hammond fit our situation well. Mr. Hammond had a very calming and reassuring presence, that helped greatly with navigating us through this process. He was honest with what to expect and came up with some very creative and resourceful options for us to consider. His knowledge and understanding was greatly appreciated. We would have him represent us again, if needed. S. Schroeder, Oregon

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

  10. Are there alternative ways to resolve my legal issue?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Portland, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
