If you’re looking for legal assistance with immigrating yourself or a loved one, this is the attorney you want. Allow me to explain: 1. Free initial consultation - What initially drew my wife and I to this firm was the free initial consultation. He’s willing to take the time to sit with prospective clients and discuss their options before billing them a dime for his services, whereas most of the other lawyers I spoke with wanted to charge a consultation fee. 2. Pay for the job, not the hours - Terrence Green and his assistants charged us a flat rate for the acquisition of my wife’s Green Card. We paid half up front, and paid the rest off afterwards. This fee covers all your bases, so if the federal government wants to interview you, he will attend with you as part of his services for no additional fee. If you have questions or concerns, he and his associates make themselves available to you anytime during business hours without charging additional costs for their time. 3. Friendly and Professional - Everyone at Terrence Green Law LLC has treated us with kindness, dignity, and respect, on top of providing us with excellent legal counsel. 4. No hassle - Not only did they make the green card process incredibly easy for us, but they also made it very easy to set up scheduled payments for our legal fees. Everything considered, you get a tremendous amount of value from hiring Terrence Green Law LLC as your immigration attorney. The quality of service, availability, and affordability make a strong case for hiring his services to assist your family. We live in a politically volatile time where immigrants are often the subject of persecution for political gain. Don’t let your family be victimized by those who would use your misfortune to rally their base. Let Terrence and his team help you get immigrated legally, and live the American dream you deserve.

Terrence Green helped handle my Naturalisation process. Having him and his team looking over the documents, making sure that everything was in order, explaining the process and having him turn up to my interview was very reassuring. The entire team are friendly and helpful, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for Immigration advice.

My wife and I recently met with Stephen Montgomery to discuss estate planning. He was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. While we ended up going in a different direction in terms of our estate planning we would recommend Mr, Montgomery to others. He was more than fair with us, he is active in the community and is compassionate. Please consider using his services.

I found Stephen to be extremely helpful and patient with me in navigating my Dad's Power of Attorney, Trust, and Will at a very difficult time in my parents' lives. He was kind, patient, attentive, and very knowledgable. I plan to see him again when it is time to set up my own estate paperwork.

Alan responded to me the same day. While I may need to confer with him in the future, he explained that he thought my situation had progressed to the point where a litigator would be better suited. He had his assistant coordinate a meeting with us and a litigator in his firm. I appreciated his quick response and honesty in regard to the type of attorney the would benefit us the most. Based on this brief interaction, I'd feel very comfortable hiring him in the future if I ever have need of legal assistance in his field of expertise.

Alan Sorem provide us what we needed to make the decision to walk away from a home we felt uncomfortable with obtaining. His knowledge and professionalism helped us to understand what the seller of the home was expecting the buyer to pay for. We would not hesitate to call him again for any assistance we need in the future. Thank you Alan and your team for helping us when we needed you.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Salem, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
