Chelsea Armstrong came highly recommended related to a matter of my wife being owed an unpaid judgment. In an effort to evade payment, the person that owed the judgement resorted to legally harassing us instead. Chelsea stepped in immediately, was proactive, communicated extremely well, was rock solid on follow-through, was highly accurate in her work and legal assessment, took up the matter in a hearing that she initiated, and was very effective in shutting down the nonsense. I could not have asked for more. I highly recommend Chelsea and will no doubt be seeking her good help again.

She looks at the individual circumstances of each divorce and knows when it is appropriate to ask for more or less than the default parenting plan. She has a calm demeanor that is so necessary during a stressful divorce. She really listens to her client’s concerns. She is highly experienced and smart. I would choose Chelsea 100 times over to represent me and my child. She cares about children.

Chelsea Armstrong was my attorney for close to three years and in that time she helped me immensely. I went through a very nasty divorce that was fueled by a bitter ex. Along the entire process which eventually led to the Oregon Court of Appeals, Chelsea was great. She was very informative of our odds of winning at every stage. She was able to educate me on the case and give me great advice. At each junction I was the one making the ultimate decision with the help of her legal expertise. Quite often in a bitter divorce case it feels so traumatic and devastating to your life, in that aspect Chelsea was outstanding as well. I would talk to her and every time would feel better, and if I just followed her directions and did as she said I would be fine in the end. My ex had an attorney that just tried to do everything the old school way which inflates the cost. Chelsea really tried to keep the costs down as much as possible by thinking outside the box. I truly believe that you are so much more than just a case number to her. In such a negative climate which divorce can be, Chelsea was the only bright spot and I would give her the highest recommendation possible. I also forgot to mention that we won at every level, and that she always out maneuvered the three attorneys that the ex used. I was so fortunate to have found Chelsea!

I retained Chelsea after my ex husband sued me for custody of my children. Chelsea was very professional when handling my case, and was very forthcoming and honest with me on her opinion of the outcome as well as the laws that effected my case. Whether she realized it or not, this was very reassuring and gave me confidence as we ended up going to trial (And WON!) I would highly recommend her and if the need arises I will seek her as my legal counsel again.

I purchased a used motor home and was promised it was in perfect working condition. It broke down the next day due to numerous mechanical problems. I was also told that is had been gone over by the mechanics and was told no repairs were necessary. Even though I knew it was used motor home, Adam Hanson was able to prove to the Judge that I was mislead and there was misrepresentation of the sales person and thankfully, I was able to return the motor home and get a full refund. This was an very unusual case, and thankfully, I had the right attorney that did a lot of work before the court date and won the case.

My son is new to the county we live in and it felt like he had no one in his corner until Mr. Walls stepped up. He is efficient and on top of the game. He and his staff are professional in every step and even though my family member is till litigating, I have full confidence in Mr. Walls to finish the game on top. I also will be recommending him and then some. All of this from a court appointment.

Mr walls took on my case as a court appointed attorney. Being as it is, plenty of stereotypes float around about court appointed legal advice. With him, though, i found that he was very punctual. Wanted to make contact often and keep me informed as to new evidencial discoveries. In the end, after a long legal batte, i got what i considered a "victory" compared to my original charges. I couldnt have asked, or payed for, better representation and i will continue to reccomend Mr. Walls to anyone in need in his area. He will keep you up to date on information and make sure that you know directly what the next course of action is, as well as communicate with the state on your behalf. Thank you for your help!!!!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Salem, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
