Was supposed to have counsel of one lawyer that was requested was not told until a week after signing papers that I would be given to another attorney. A new attorney to PA at that. Then did absolutely nothing to defend me in the courtroom the day of the hearing. When I expressed I would like to have a meeting with the attorney representing me and the attorney I was supposed to have explaining why I was unhappy, they decided not to even have a meeting and hear my concerns to maybe work on what could be better for the client as most attorneys would do. Instead stated I would never be happy and they can’t represent me anymore. Very curious as to why they wouldn’t even have a meeting if someone your paying a lot of money upfront at that to represent you and they don’t and you try to work it out and they won’t even do that. Shows how much care they actually have for their clients. Then get the itemized list of what they billed and of coarse an extra hour is on their for a day we had a hearing that lasted an hour and somehow got billed for 2. Not even worth the fight. I wouldn’t have kept you after that meeting anyways. Just please if you decide to go there. Try and decide against it.

Great Attorney For Many People! JJ Janos is and has been my Private Attorney since 1985 and has been representing and advising my entire family on legal, political and charitable aspects on our careers and communities. I met Joe in June of 1982 when I was the Teamster Union Representative for the Sheriffs and Detectives at the County of Beaver. Right from the start, Joe was different from other previous County Negotiators, because Joe was straightforward but very fair about his responses, demeanor, and truly cared about proper discipline, grievances, and employee well-being. When I asked Joe to be my Attorney on another issue, he pointed out that it would be unethical conflict of interests since he negotiated with our Union on behalf of the County. However, after he left that position in 1985, I was proud to hire him as our Family Attorney. Joe still advises all of us on career opportunities. I never regretted taking his advice when he recommend for me to become Judicial Conduct Board Chief Investigator, Speaker of House Executive Director, and Pennsylvania Legislature Member Services. Joe took great time often Pro Bono for all our family matters and advised my children on University Selections, Education and Career choices in addition to legal representation. Joe also did such a great job when referred by Legislators for UMW members and Non-Union Coal Miners on Black Lung and other State Employee on outside matters. Joe’s advice is spot on from his many experiences, and many people thank me when I refer him. Joe also represented my family and mother on a number of occasions. I just retain Joe on Estate Planning, Power of Attorney, and Living Will. Best of all when Joe does not know something he says, I'll find out or refers another expert making sure you are always handled properly with satisfaction. I highly recommend JJ Janos without reservation.

I am proud to say I have been one of the first longtime Clients of Attorney J.J. Janos since June 1982. I am still his Client while living in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Tennessee. I am pleased I can finally talk about his service to me, since Joe prefers to avoid the limelight. Joe is a great Attorney consistently pleasant continually advises me as a take-charge person in numerous legal, businesses, and political activities involving my family and me. I consider our family fortunate that Joe is constantly there counseling us on various laws, policies, and procedures with true professional dedication. Most importantly, Joe is available anytime even when he is out of town, state, or country. Joe always is careful to lay out sound legal with real-world counsel along with creative articulate explanations at a very reasonable rate I consider gratuitous. Joe services include working on Township, County, Commonwealth, Congressional, Senatorial, and Presidential elections, Former Township Commissioner Business, Union Relations with major Commercial Airlines and many more areas of expertise. Joe's advice and contacts on Small Business In-corporations, Investment Funding, and Developments brings projects to our region. Joe prefers to stay in the background to make sure others are given the credit for political, charitable, and community service. Joe permanently taught me to be Bi-Partisan on votes, service, and agreements making sure they were legal and ethical to aid our constituents and community, choose well-qualified people. When I consider running for Congress, Joe invited me to the Democratic Convention at Chicago in August of 1996 to be a guest at the Ohio Delegation Breakfast with Former Democratic and Republican Congresspersons. There I met House Leader Dick Gephardt, Senator John Glenn, George Stephanopoulos and the entire Youngstown and Mahoning County Delegates due to Joe’s relationships that he always quietly cultivated. Later Joe invited me to the Republican Convention at Philadelphia in July of 2000 where I was privy to lectures by the Foreign Policy Research Institute. Even then, Joe stayed in the background and just enjoyed watching all of us get together and work on many projects, developments, and policy making giving credit to all of us as he does still today. In summary, I just retained Joe on another SBA Project for my family. If you ever need an Attorney that cares about you and your family and community charities, Joe is one person to seek out, and that is not an opinion, but a fact!

JJ Janos, did a great job with our Oil & Gas Leases and Company that oversees our operations. He has previous experience with Rockefeller's The Standard Oil Company (Ohio), and his education of having a Master of Science in Economics from West Virginia University and studies in Rome, Italy as well as General Counsel for Former Congressman Eugene V. Atkinson International Consultants was very valuable. he has superb experience in International Banking, Government, and Labor Relations too. We were very satisfied with all his help.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
