We had the pleasure of being represented by Dan. I cannot give more stars or I would. Dan is a wonderful educational attorney who is knowledgeable, responsive and genuine. He listened to us when our district wouldn’t, he gave us the voice that we needed. We tried for years to navigate the special education system and work with school teams. Every time we had a concern, the district strong armed us into their way with tactics like-take it or leave it, you can’t have that, we don’t do that here. Dan helped our no’s change to yes. Dan was invested in our child, not just as a case but as a person. We talked about what was best for THEM, discussed all options and developed a plan. The process was long but worth it, my child is finally happy! School is doing what’s right without fighting each step. Dan provided solid and thorough counsel for each of the obstacles we faced. I have recommended Dan and this law firm to other parents wholeheartedly. I will continue to do so! Thank you Dan!

I reached out to Dan and his team for an issue, the issue was resolved with no stress on my end. Dan was tremendous and would definitely be used again, if it were ever to be needed again.

When I called the law office of Kenneth s. Cooper, I wasn’t sure what to expect because I was at my wits end with every other option I had tried before. Thankfully I spoke with Dan Cooper who 1st was very kind, 2nd direct and to the point (told me if he didn’t think he could win he would let me know and wouldn’t waste my time) which I found very honest and I appreciated. 3rd after taking on my case he stayed in touch and keep me updated with everything I needed to know. If I had any questions he had no hesitation answering, if he had the answer. He always got back to me within 24-48 hours no matter what. After a year of the other side dragging out the case Dan was able to win the case for myself and my son. I am truly grateful that he was willing and able to help me and my son. I most definitely would recommend him to anyone because Dan is great at what he does. Dan, I just want to say Thank you for everything you did for me and my son. Your amazing and may god bless you always for your hard work and dedication to what you do.

Jess Simon has been our Employment and Labor legal counsel for few years. She helped us through building employee handbook creation and understanding the complex labor law. She always has your interest at heart and most importantly, she has compassion and empathy for small businesses like I have. Highly recommended!

I found myself in an unforeseen situation where I needed to seek the advice and guidance of an employment and labor attorney. From the moment, I connected with Ms. Jess Simon I knew that I was in good hands with a trusted and knowledgeable litigator. Throughout the process (which went on for several months), Jess was in constant communication with me, providing real-time updates on the status of my complaint and her ongoing negotiations with my previous employer (a fortune 500 company). Jess' legal strategy was impressive! It was multi-dimensional and continued to evolve throughout the process during discussions with my previous employer. Her superior negotiation skills & expertise helped to secure an outcome that far exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Ms. Jess Simon. Reach out to her, you will be glad you did!

On behalf of my family and myself I’d like to thank Erica Wilson for her countless hours and dedication to all of the details pertaining to our law suit. She was kind, considerate, professional and most of all caring. I would HIGHLY recommend Erica for your needs in a malpractice lawsuit if you find yourself in the unfortunate position.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
