For 16 years, Steve Dickstein represented me in my career as a TV newsman. From small markets to large, he found positions and negotiated contracts; never an easy feat in a fiercely competitive field like television. But I always felt like he was seeing two moves ahead.
Truth be told, many agents disappear until contracts expire. But I always knew Steve was no farther than a phone call away. I was never one of his network-level clients; but he provided care, concern and counsel as if I were his only client.
His sense of humor and good nature provided comfort when my career path got rough, and his legal acumen paved the way to satisfactory endings of intra-office TV news dramas.
But Steve truly defined himself in early 2009 as I contemplated a career change. I wanted to move into a corporate communications position with a financial services company, and Steve offered advice to help in that transition.
Consider that for a moment: he was making a living from the representation fees generated by my career as an anchor and reporter. Yet Steve provided a road map out of that line of work, knowing it was best for me and my family.
