This review is long overdue! On November 20th of 2023, I filed for a Divorce from a spouse who struggled with different addiction issues, infidelity, the list goes on. In January of 2024, I discovered my spouse, through counsel, had filed a custody action against me. Considering this individual had been in and out of the picture from Day 1, and could not even support himself, I felt shocked. Initially, I allowed my boss of 14 years who is an attorney to represent me since, I am a single mother, and he wished to represent me for free. That was an impulsive decision on my part. I ended up firing him within a handful of days because he did not have the expertise in Family Law that I desperately needed, and he failed to truly listen to what I had to say. I then met with an incredibly rebellious and brazen attorney I was acquainted with who had a reputation for kicking legal a$$ and continuously winning landmark cases. Yet, that attorney was clearly only interested in my physical appearance, and acted like a complete unethical pig during my first in-person Custody Meeting with him. I felt beyond outraged, discouraged, and even a bit defeated. It was a rough legal start to say the least. As a result, I heavily researched reputable FEMALE attorneys who specialized in Family Law, and became interested in two. Jennifer Riley was one of them. Upon meeting with Jennifer and her Associate, Amanda Atkinson, I immediately knew they were the right legal fit for me. These two gems were the exact legal team I had been searching for and desired to have in my corner to fight for my child and I, and protect us in Court. Jennifer and Amanda made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked into Jennifer’s office. While opening up about deeply personal, traumatic, and triggering events, they made me feel 100% at ease. They created a safe environment for me to share and vent in. They listened intently, and did not judge. They offered understanding, empathy, and compassion. When walking through a custody battle, one will typically experience many dark and deep-rooted emotions, which can, at times, bring out a frustrating side of even the best individuals who have the best of intentions. During the darkest of times, Jennifer and Amanda tread thoughtfully, act patiently, and consistently prove how much they genuinely care. They are passionate advocates. They are respectful, but fierce when necessary. They are humble, and confident. They are realistic, and honest. They are knowledgeable, and wise. They are thorough, organized, and strategic. They are courteous, and kind. Honestly, I cannot speak highly enough about either one of these terrific women. They made an incredibly difficult experience financially and emotionally LESS stressful. Retaining private counsel is not cheap in the slightest. Jennifer understands this, and graciously allowed me to work a payment plan with her office staff. In conclusion, I could not feel more grateful for my phenomenal legal team. They are a team I can trust. Oh, yeah, and, by legal standards, on October 1st of 2024, I WON with a number of unicorn provisions/protections in place. Cheers (of Sparkling Cider) to that! Thank you Jennifer and Amanda! 🥳🙌🏻

My experience with this office was nothing but exceptional, everyone was so friendly and helpful. My questions or concerns were always answered in a timely manner. This was my first time ever needing and dealing with a law office for legal help and I was absolutely clueless on what to do/expect. I will be forever grateful for Jennifer Riley and the amazing people who work in her office. I’d like to give an extra special thank you to my attorney Tyler Kaestner who helped me in a very difficult time, Tyler was truly wonderful to work with and helped me throughout my divorce and custody process, he explained everything so well and help me navigate my way through the mess of my life. If you are ever in need of legal help, definitely don’t hesitate to reach out to this office, you won’t regret it! If you are already going through a difficult time, don’t make it even worse by not having the best representation you could have for yourself. I will definitely be recommending this office to everyone I can !

I cannot speak about the services of Ms. Riley, as she did not represent me in my matter. Ms. Riley referred me to her Associate Attorney, Amanda Atkinson. I looked up her credentials online and felt that she may not be equipped to handle my case, however after speaking directly to her about my case, I felt more comfortable, as she spoke of a plan that seemed viable. Always trust your gut! Ms. Atkinson wasn't as prepared as she should have been. She never spoke to my witnesses before court. In the courtroom she was disheveled, shuffling papers around at the last minute, asking me to find things for her and arrange papers for her during lunch break. I wrote her notes so that she could ask follow up questions to the main witness; she never asked about those topics and seemed lost in her line of questioning. She overspent the $5k retainer by over $4,900. The costs are questionable based on her lack of preparedness. The case was lost partly because Ms. Atkinson was intimidated by the judge (she said she didn't want to upset the judge by doing objections) and she did not properly question the witnesses. She also did not produce enough evidence (and we had a lot of evidence to present) again because she was afraid of upsetting the judge who wanted to speed things along. The judge also seemed to be biased, but that is another topic. Again, I cannot speak to the services of Ms. Jennifer Riley, as she did not represent me in court, however, I would absolutely not recommend Ms. Amanda Atkinson to represent you. She was very nice, professional, and spoke as if she had a viable plan. She was a lovely and pleasant person, however when it came down to executing the plan in place, the whole thing was a flop, underperformed at best. And she overspent without any regard to costs incurred or the validity of said costs.

I met Debbie Miller many years ago through a mutual friend. I recently had the pleasure of working with Debbie on my estate planning and was extremely impressed by her professionalism and expertise. She was able to quickly understand my needs and concerns and provide various options to consider on how to structure my estate. She suggested things I would not have thought about and her attention to detail and commitment was evident throughout the process. Debbie's pricing was also very reasonable, which was an added bonus. She provided a clear and concise breakdown of all costs, and I found her fees to be extremely fair and competitive. I was so pleased with Debbie’s work and her demeanor, that I recommended her to work with my elderly parents. I recall my father saying that Debbie made him feel comfortable and took the time to make sure he understood everything. I also recommended Debbie to my Aunt who hired Debbie and she was extremely pleased with the services provided. In summary, I would highly recommend Debbie Miller. She is an exceptional attorney who goes above and beyond for her clients and provides expert legal advice and representation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
