He’s not the kinda of attorney that will make false promises for you to hire him. He’s very honest and up front. He also focuses on the big picture and how a judge will see things. He’s very knowledgeable on the laws. All around he’s a good attorney. We have kept him on retainer for two years now for child custody purposes and he has yet to let us Down. He also gives sound legal advice and always gets back to us in a timely manner.

John King is a no bs attorney with a mind for fairness. His legal counsel has proven both useful and calming in an altogether stressful situation. And seriously, you’ve got to see him in the court room. Professional, courteous, an avid listener, and a force to be reckoned with: we can’t speak highly enough of John F. King.

John listens to his client and offers wisdom beyond words. I knew I picked the right attorney immediately following the consultation. John will fight for your rights. In my divorce I felt I had everything to lose and nothing to gain. The outcome was quite different!! Thank you so much John!

Mr. King assisted me with my divorce from start to finish. It was a long process that involved filing, custody, child support, spousal support, selling a home, and dividing the marital estate (almost 3 years from filing to decree in hand). It was costly but without his expertise it could have been worse. He is honest, efficient, experienced, reasonable, and very professional. He doesn't get caught up in any of the drama and does his best to make sure things are done in a timely manner and as quick as possible. He is easy to reach via email or phone. I'm glad to have used his services.

Ms. Coyne was a pleasure to work with on recent real estate transaction. She responded to my questions in a prompt, courteous and thorough manner. She was patient and took the time to educate me about the process. For anyone looking for highly personalized and fairly priced services, I would highly recommend this small, veteran owned law firm.

He wasn't intimidated by any part of my Mother's case. He made sure not only to win her case in it's entirety, but he made sure ALL her legal fees paid to him were also reimbursed so in the end she was completely made whole. He is thorough, respectful, and won't waste your time.

I hired Michael Pykosh over 3 years ago. My search for a Lawyer to take on my case was exhausting. After making several calls into many different Attorney Office's and being denied the help that I needed, I was ready to give up. When I contacted Mike, he was the one who agreed to accept the challenge of my case and made me feel confident that I could rely on him to resolve and win my case, and indeed he did exactly that. He was responsive whenever I needed him. I will always have complete confidence and trust in Mike and his courteous Staff, and will continue to refer Mike to my friends and relatives who may be in need of an Excellent Lawyer.

I have dealt with Attorney Michael Pykosh for approximately 20 years. I find him to be responsive, knowledgeable and I value his opinions and thoughts. I am a 30 year full time Realtor and highly recommend my clients, friends and relatives to Mr. Pykosh. At settlement my clients can rest assured the job is complete, they have received the best service and have a title policy that will protect their interest in their home. His office and staff are professional and the most considerate.

Chris was highly recommended by a trusted source and proved to be invaluable at assisting me with a DWI. Chris kept me up to date on my case, worked the system for almost exactly a year to achieve the best possible result. Chris and his team were always up front, never renegotiated the cost for my defense, kept me appraised of what we were up against and did a tremendous job!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
