As an addict, one of the hardest ways to get to your "own rock bottom" is to get arrested for DUI. While we feel scared, lost, frantic, and hopeless inside, we are normally also met with a society that often seems to want to automatically cancel us, stare down their noses at us and punish us for something they believe we continue to do because we "want to" and that we "could stop if we REALLY WANTED to". Two years ago, I was arrested on my second DUI. I had gotten the first only 3 years prior to that and after that experience, I was convinced I was headed to "The Big House", Upstate, and they were throwing the key away. Convinced that my first experience with a public defender didn't seem right and that I received the sentence I did because my lawyer spent LITERALLY NO TIME AT ALL WITH ME, I asked around for some suggestions for good, local, DUI lawyers and Bill Thompson was a name I heard more than once. In fact, Bill came HIGHLY recommended by a connected Dunmore business owner I'm friendly with. After hearing his name a few times when I asked the same, "Who would you say is THE BEST DUI Lawyer in the area", question, I decided to get in touch with him. I texted Bill that day, fully expecting to get some administrative assistant who would "pass the message along to Mr. Thompson" and never hear anything again until court day, when I'd meet him there 5 minutes before, where he would make sure I signed papers that claimed that I felt my attorney listened to me and understood my case, and he would work his 10 minutes I'm the courtroom as if he really worked. Then, I'd go off to jail, and he'd be off to vacation in Cabo with the money he made from "representing me". This was, after all, what had happened during my first DUI case, when I was out of any significant work and I was assigned a public defender, but what REALLY happened when I called Bill Thompson, was the impetus that I needed in order to change the trajectory of my life. After texting Bill Thompson on that May day, I waited no more than five minutes before hearing back from his office and what shocked me most is that HE replied to me - HIMSELF! He immediately started working, even before formally taking my case. His first move was to deescalate my trepidation and to listen. His gentle, kind words helped to significantly change my heart rate. I was very cautious with my excitement until I realized that my last question of, "Will I be able to afford you?", was answered with a resounding, "YES!!", as he explained payment plans and the like. For the next year, Bill stood by my side, through thick and thin. He was one text away, no matter the time. He could meet with me any day I needed to talk. He would even answer ANY OTHER law question I had for him!! I wasn't fully aware of how amazing Bill's representation skills were until I had a counselor, who had been in the profession for some time, convinced that I was working under cover for law enforcement, because I'd received what he said to be, "the lightest ever sentence for a second DUI"!! The truth of this situation isn't that Bill Thompson, "got me out of my DUI" or "got me off on some technicality". Bill liked me when I couldn't like myself. He guided me through the steps that I needed to take in order to get well. He encouraged me to do things the right way! I could sing his praises for a few more pages, but I'm out of space. I was charged and facing 7+ years in prison until I hired bill. He got all charges dropped except 1 and I ended up getting 2 years of probation. Being wrongfully accused of four felonies was terrifying. William Thompson is an amazing attorney!!! There are so many words I could use to describe him, but most definitely the word amazing is very fitting. I found Mr. Thompson, after browsing a list of recommended lawyers given to me by friends. At the time I had I was dealing with a criminal case for possession of a small amount of marijuana. After giving him my arrest report(officers version of events), I proceeded to tell him my version of events and immediately , began telling me the ways he can help my situation. , I was dealing with one other problem of not having funds available until a later date, I explained my problem to him and he worked with me. We worked out a payment plan which left me able to obtain him for services. The consultation itself was amazing, I left his office knowing I found the found the right one. Mind you, I had already been to court with a public defender that came at me with a bunch of offers I didn't wanna accept and asked for a continuance to obtain real representation, rather than someone standing beside me, putting me on a platter for the judge. They were offering me 3-6 months jail time, license suspension and all. That's when I set out to find a lawyer and came across Mr. Thompson. Now, at the day of my scheduled hearing, Mr. Thompson approached me, told me what he was gonna do, which was get this matter reduced to a fine. I sat and waited as he walked into the courtroom, and 5 minutes later i was called in. It was night and day from the door, the judge, prosecutor, and arresting officer even treated me differently. I stood there beside Mr. Thompson, as they proceeded to dismiss everything if I plea out to a fine. Amazing!!! I left that building one of the happiest people alive, still having my freedom, drivers license, and my job...he was truly worth every penny.
