Though his firm touts him as experienced in business and land use matters, it was apparent in consulting him he lacked competency in these areas of law.

I have worked with Shari on a personal family matter and she was fantastic - professional, firm, yet kind and always available to help through the next step in the process. She had a great sense of what the potential outcomes were going to look like and had a perfect rapport with the arbiters in the case. I highly recommend her if you are looking for someone to lead you reassuringly through a complicated legal process.

Our experience with Shari at High Swartz was excellent. She answered all our questions in an easy to understand an professional manner. Our documents and hearings were addressed quickly, with expert knowledge and with the exact results we had hoped for. Shari's upbeat and positive attitude reassured us every step of the way. I would not hesitate to recommend or use High Swartz and Shari again, in the future.

This was a very stressful time in our lives and Shari simply made our experience stress free. I recommend Shari to all of my clients! Robert Schall, Esquire, Cooper Schall and Levy.

Renata Pabisz is someone who is very caring and passionate about what she does. My brother and I followed Renata from another firm as my first experience with my fathers estate was very difficult and she looked out for my families best interest. In needing her services again things were much easier for my Mom's estate but it was a pleasure to deal with her and her assistants' and made a difficult time very easy. Trust that you will be in good hands with Renata Pabisz. There should be more like her out there.

Michael was the best attorney that I ever dealt with in my entire life! His fees were extremely fair and his service was top notch! He was able to handle my situation quickly and get results. When his job was finished I was pleasantly surprised as I had part of my retainer issued back to me. I thought that I actually owed him money because of the many time that I called him asking him multiple questions. This man is both honest and fair which is hard to find nowadays with most attorneys. He's the Best!!

Michael Shelton has been helping me navigate through a pretty rough custody battle . He not only has been very professional but also has gone beyond my expectations of a lawyer . He is relatively new to custody court and still has the drive and passion to seek justice in what can very quickly become a harsh situation . He shows empathy , seeks answers and believes in me when the system seems to have failed me. He is a seeker of truth and justice . I admire and respect him and wish him all the best with his future endeavors .

Mr. Shelton assisted us in determining the proper state for probating an elderly relatives will as it relates to previous and potential state residence. He researched the laws in two states and provided a sound recommendation on the best course of action. Throughout the effort he was totally professional, timely in the provision of material and remained in constant communication with us. We were pleased with his services.

I feel truly blessed to have found attorney Cheryl Garber. Throughout my case, Cheryl was consistent in her communication and professionalism, and was always empathic to my situation. Cheryl was able to take a very complex and stressful situation and help me to reach a successful outcome when no one else would take my case. I had contacted over 40 attorneys before I found Cheryl. The other attorneys either didn’t respond, told me that it wasn’t worth their time, or stated that they had no idea how to even proceed under the circumstances. Cheryl always took the time to explain what my options were, the likely outcomes, and helped me to decide what the best course of action would be. Even though it seemed like a hopeless situation, I had every confidence in Cheryl’s ability to win my case. She was extremely thorough, tenacious, and highly knowledgeable of the relevant law. If it wasn’t for Cheryl, I would have given up and gave into the bully who had baselessly sued me.

A neighboring property was lacking in their grounds maintenance department which in return pushed their surface water onto our property. Cheryl advised us on the correct approach, although pursuing a claim wasn't an option, a settlement was reached and we're pleased with the outcome because the problem can now be resolved at the sources cost. Thanks Cheryl! Michael and Brittany

A total powerhouse and by far the greatest attorney ever! Although still in the process, Attorney Cheryl Garber has done more in 5 weeks than I could have ever imagined! Her communication skills are impeccable! A total straight shooter but has an empathetic side for her clients that makes a horrible situation, not seem so bad. She is driven, obviously loves her job, and is a FORCE NOT TO BE RECKONED WITH when it comes to the defense of her clients. She thinks outside the box, not afraid of a challenge and makes you feel as if you are fully protected! If you are looking for an attorney in NJ or PA, contact her, you will not be disappointed!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Doylestown, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
