Pros
1
Effective legal representation in court
“He was comfortable and confident in the courtroom and was very familiar to the Judge.”
2
Successful case outcomes
“He was able to negotiate with the DA for a reduced charge down to a summary ticket. This was better than I had ever hoped and far better than another lawyer had said was possible.”
3
Reasonable and transparent pricing
“He sets a fair price for his services.”
Cons
1
Poor communication and lack of case updates
“Almost a year and a half for my divorce all parties are cooperating but Mr. Kenney doesn't communicate where we are in the process and what to the next step is. I only get information if I call or now email and his answers are less then acceptable.”
2
Unresponsive and unavailable at times
“Initially he wouldn't promptly return phone calls and emails and was always busy when I called. His administrative assistant would take my number and said she would have him call but he never did.”
3
Inconsistent quality of service
“Over the course of 3 or 4 office meetings I had to repeat the details of my case to him over and over again as he asked me the same questions every single time. It felt as if it was his first time meeting me every time.”

Back in 2016/2017 I was a lost kid and hired John Kenney for a DUI in Bucks County. After paying his fee which I forget the total $800-2000 range - I went to treatment in Florida and came back at the end of that year as there was a warrant due to them not receiving proper treatment paperwork. I informed his office that I was coming back to handle this and while in court I spoke to John he said he wasn't going to make it. Luckily another lawyer in the courts that day stepped in because he recognized the issue of my lawyer not being present. I think the circumstances of what was going on impacted whatever service I would typically receive from this office. But at the end of the day he took my parents $ and rendered 0 services and left me guessing at my darkest of times (in a court anyway). ***** Entry of Appearance Not Filed*****

John is the best attorney ever!! He constantly made me feel at ease. When we went to court over a suspended registration issue: John made great negotiations with the Police Officers. I will never forget what the Judge said to me: You are innocent! You are not guilty! I paid no fine!!! This is one excellent attorney. Very gifted in his pratice!

The worst lawyer ever... I hired John M. Kenney 2 years ago to divorce from my ex, no status given every-time I had called. They never return your call back. He just want your money to get nothing done. This is a simple divorce, no kids and nothing in common with my ex. Definitely, would not recommend him at all. It is a waste of money and time. He should be banned.

Almost a year and a half for my divorce all parties are cooperating but Mr. Kenney doesn't communicate where we are in the process and what to the next step is. I only get information if I call or now email and his answers are less then acceptable. Very frustrated and confused. I would.not recommend Mr. Kenney.

After meeting with Mr. Kenney and a couple other lawyers for a free consultation on my ongoing divorce I decided to hire him because his rate seemed fair compared to the others. My ex-wife and myself were going through a mutual consent divorce and had filed the majority of the paperwork ourselves but run into a roadblock because the judge overseeing our case was very particular. Mr. Kenney took on our case and handled the matter in a timely manner. My only issue with Mr. Kenney was his lack of communication. Initially he wouldn't promptly return phone calls and emails and was always busy when I called. His administrative assistant would take my number and said she would have him call but he never did. After all my efforts it wasn't until I paid Mr. Kenney our agreed upon fee that he started responding to calls and emails immediately. Also, I wished he was more proactive in providing information on the case status throughout the process.

I have known Elliot for 35 years and he has saved my home with troubles from a realtor to helping my daughter with credit debt and finances. Recently helping me with my mother passing and her estate. With a truly professional attitude (with being down to earth) and no nonsense effect to the other parties. Excellent in real estate, probate and wills. Also so Orphans court. Really a superior lawyer to have on your side.

Very professional with a laid back atmosphere, not that uppity stuffed shirt type where you're afraid to ask questions. Great communication during the whole process and thing were done in a timely matter. I have told my friends that if they ever need an attorney this is the one. Thanks again Elliot!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
