Top review highlights

Pros
1
Excellent communication and responsiveness from the lawyers, often providing prompt updates and addressing client inquiries
“Very good at communicating with what is going on with your situation. I highly recommend.”
2
Knowledgeable and experienced attorneys who are able to effectively handle a variety of legal matters, including bankruptcy, estate planning, and family law
“Corey Sacca was really great to work with, he was very informative and able to answer questions we had about our case and give us plenty of useful information.”
3
Compassionate and caring approach, with lawyers who genuinely listen to client concerns and work to achieve the best possible outcomes
“Corey literally saved my sanity! I was struggling and Corey helped me get squared away and on the right path! Would recommend to anyone who needed him.”
4
Reasonable and transparent pricing, with some lawyers willing to work with clients on payment plans and hourly rates rather than just percentage-based fees
“Corey worked with me when it came to payments. I probably called about 15 other attorneys besides Corey. Do you want to know the difference between him and the others? Corey starts working on the bankruptcy process with the first initial payment, whereas with other attorneys, they want every single penny before they start the paperwork.”
Cons
1
Inconsistent communication and responsiveness from some lawyers, with clients reporting difficulty reaching their attorney or receiving timely updates on their cases
“Very disappointed in our experience with Bononi and Company. Specifically Corey Sacca. We were randomly referred to this company through the Westmoreland Bar Association. I spoke with Corey during an initial call about our legal issues and how we would like to proceed. We schedule an in person meeting to begin the process and provide the information for our initial complaint to be filed. We attended the meeting and initially, Mr. Sacca didn't even know why we were there.”
2
Lack of attention to detail and proactive client advising, leading to frustration and potentially less-than-optimal outcomes
“I hired Bononi & Bononi for an estate case, and I would not recommend them as an advisor or as a attorney. Most times, it would be 3 weeks before they responded to my emails. My case was initially with Eric, then the day of the hearing, it was transferred to Marco with no advance notice, and I had to brief him on the background 10 minutes before we commenced. I didn't find them to be an advocate or proactive on my case.”

Matt was retained to represent my father in two DUI cases. Having never been involved in the legal system, I knew nothing about what to expect. Matt held our hands and provided guidance every step of the way. There was never a time where I didn’t know where things stood or what was coming next. It was very comforting to have Matt by our side, and to know that he truly had my family’s best interest at heart. I can never think Matt enough for what he did to help us through this process. When it comes to dealing with such a situation , the level of trust in your attorney is paramount. This trust was established right from the start, and never wavered throughout. Matt did an absolutely fantastic job, and I will always be grateful for his services. My wife and I will be utilizing Matt to take care of some other family matters in the near future. my utmost recommendation to anyone else out there that may be looking for counsel that Matt should be your choice

An extremely sharp Lawer, but most important is the fact that he's a good human being ! Unlike most Lawers, he does what he says he will do and he does it when he says he will do it ! I Personly Highly Recommend this Man ! -- Louis T. Biesuz, Export Pa.

I hired Matthew to represent me during the most stressful time of my life. The way he communicated and explained the situation to me was unparalleled. He made sure i understood exactly what the possible outcomes were and there was never any doubt, confusion or uncertainty heading into my arraignment. I have dealt with attorneys in the past who treat clients like cattle and explain the situation like a telemarketer reading a pre written script. Also thought i should mention that Matthew has the most soothing voice on gods green earth and i wish i could hire him to sing me to sleep every night. The man should have his own radio/TV/YouTube channel or release his own Christmas album and put Michael Buble out of business!

Many, many thanks to Marco for his outstanding work on my case. Marco was truly professional and calming at all times. He completely dismantled the opposition's case, expertly rebutted the lies of the witness, and skillfully articulated the flaws / weaknesses of their case resulting in a complete dismissal by the presiding Judge. I have had bad experiences with attorneys in the past but Marco lived up to his billing and restored my faith in the justice system. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking quality representation.

I would just like to thank Gretchen and Mike from Altoona again They did an amazing job with both cases of mine. They were extremely understanding, supportive and helpful. Mike gave excellent advice over the period of my worker's comp case. His hard work really paid off. I'm also glad I could keep them amused on almost a daily basis with my emails. Anyway, thank you for everything. I can't say enough!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Greensburg, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
