Criminal charges are scary, but Attorney Palissery is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to reassure his clients. Respectful, trustworthy, honest, and detailed responses, absolutely astonishing customer care and service like nothing I have experienced with any attorney ever before. He turned a very scary unpleasant situation into a simple and painless one. I truly cannot say enough amazing things about him and will use him for anything that requires an attorney of his specialty. And I recommend him to anyone that needs an attorney. He’s amazing!!

Nanda Palissery was retained to represent me in a criminal matter. We had both mutually agreed upon a flat fee for his services and executed a contract stating I would pay him the flat fee in exchange for him to represent me at my preliminary hearing. The hearing was continued on more than 5 occasions, mostly at the request of the opposite party. When we finally met at court that morning, the police officer presented a plea deal that I was not willing to accept. I made it clear to Palissery I was not willing to accept the plea, he then tried to force me in to it. As a result of my refusal of this deal, the hearing was continued again since the opposite party was not present anyway and it was just the police officer there offering this deal. I then received another date for the continuance and contacted Palissery to discuss a plan of action. He then stated he would require an additional fee for the same amount that I had already paid. When I questioned why I would have to pay another flat fee for the same preliminary hearing he stated it was because I could have resolved the case. He knew from the start I was unwilling to accept a plea deal and we entered in to that agreement for the entire preliminary hearing, regardless of continuances. There was no discussion prior that if I was not willing to accept the plea he would have to charge me another fee. He was completely deceptive and lied to me. He then acted vindictively and wrote to the court a few days prior to my continued hearing he would not be present and that he is withdrawing as my counsel which led me to show up without representation and was forced to request another continuance. If he had said anything about another fee as a result of me not accepting a plea deal, I probably would not have hired him. The fact that he told me he would represent me for this flat fee for the extent of the preliminary and then try to rip me off of more money is just criminal and unethical. I also used this man in the past for another case I had years ago and have paid him thousands and thousands of dollars. It was safe to assume we had some sort of business/personal relationship but as it turns out he is just money hungry and a liar.

I was in a very tramatic auto accident where I sustained injuries that required surgery. On top of bodily injury my car was totaled and, I developed a fear of driving and riding in a motor vehicle. It took months to recover and return to work. I contacted Peter Biscontini to handle my case. He immediately got to work investigating the accident. He contacted me whenever he had questions or needed documentation to assist in the case. He came and, visited me at my home and brought paperwork I needed to review and sign. In spite of the nature of our meeting; overall my experience with Peter was very pleasant. He did what needed to be done to make sure I was awarded enough to cover not only medical expenses, cost of new vehicle but, also pain and suffering. If ever I needed or someone I know would need services related to this type of case I would highly recommend Mr. Peter Justin Biscontini and, be confident that they also would be pleased with the service he will provide.

I was absolutely terrified and blindsided when I received notice that, after the welfare department waived renewal requirements for Medicaid and SNAP benefits in 2020, due to the pandemic- I was being charged with welfare fraud (having not appropriately updated them in writing with my salary change). I received a form letter about a month later, advertising Attorney Lehman’s experience. Having no idea where else to turn, I called her office. I was fairly skeptical, but after speaking with her, I hired her, based on her calm, matter-of-fact demeanor, and reassurance that she could handle this case. Although I remained anxious- as we only communicated over the phone and through email a couple times before the preliminary hearing- she more than deserves a 5-star rating. The result was that I needed to repay the overpayment that welfare had given me, which is completely understandable. But when I’d first been notified of the criminal charges, and offered to repay whatever I wasn’t entitled to, the investigator stated that this wasn’t an option. It had seemed like a misunderstanding, that occurred during a worldwide emergency, would mean a permanent criminal record, and possibly prison. Attorney Lehman was able to negotiate a dismissal of charges altogether- which I doubt would have happened otherwise. She provided not only legal expertise, but the reassurance and competence throughout this ordeal that was invaluable.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kingston, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
