Melissa was appointed to me during my PFA....She was barely awake during the trial, very spacy and uninterested. I was to have witnesses and as we were walking out she said "O I forgot about your witnesses" Despite them being there. There was a lot of hard evidence I wanted used in court and she would not use any of it (police reports, text messages, emails etc) . When my husband was on the stand she questioned him for maybe 3 min were his lawyer questioned me for approx. 30 +min. We had to have our trial postponed due to time and I confronted Ms. Bleecher about not using my witness or all the hard evidence and she withdrew from my case leaving me with no one. I pleaded before the judge that she should not be able to abandon me mid trial all because I want her to use my witnesses and hard evidence and he said he (the judge) can do whatever he wants. So without reason she was allowed to abandon me mid trial. Even if she is given to you free as she was with me due to filing a PFA DON'T take her. While in the waiting room to go into trial she was rude and very flippant with me. When she left the room the other ladies waiting to go into their trial with Ms. Bleecher said they disliked her and she's rude and one of the ladies said "I actually had to tell her to start fighting for me and not my ex". Terrible, Terrible Lawyer-

Not a good attorney at all, she was in my opinion barely functionalble. I actually had to file a motion and represent myself because she would do absolutely nothing and I won! She didnt file any motions nor responded to any of my requests I actually had to subpoena my own file from her because she would not give it to me I would not reccomend this lawyer to anyone called me rude etc. I had to represent myself thats how bad in my opinion she was.

Lindsay has been assisting our entity for two and a half years. She was very professional and efficient in her efforts to keep a complicated legal matter in the forefront with all involved parties. Once the litigation was settled, she was very instrumental in assisting us with renewing our insurance policy as well as working out the details of a new management contract. Lindsay is a problem solving professional, always striving to resolve issues. I feel confident in the advice she provides and continue to appreciate her willingness to put forth the effort for positive results. I am thankful our corporation is a client of her and her law firm.

Jozefa directed me in how to navigate through challenging situations where children are being used as means of retaliation for divorce. She is knowledgeable, involved, a strong advocate for me and my children. Ms. Jackson truly understands the situation and is both compassionate and strong in keeping my focus on workable outcomes.

I had spoken to a few lawyers prior to hiring Ms Jackson, her consultation was the first one that made me feel heard and understood; like she truly saw the big and small picture. I felt like an actual person instead of another client. Thanks to her the court process was simple and even my minor stress points were given attention and care through the whole process. I believe she specializes in custody, but she handled my whole divorce and put down all the mischaracterized accusations thrown my way. I have a fair and equitable post divorce and suffered no serious damages to credit or other typical post divorce losses. I got the 50/50 custody arrangement I petitioned for and see my child often, and have equal authority towards her well being. I would hire Jozefa again in a heart beat, and truly believe that if I hired anyone else I would not have been successful in defending myself.

The attorneys and staff at McDonald At Law were very caring about the injuries I suffered and genuinely seemed concerned about me as a person, and not just a case or someone to make money off of. Attorney McDonald supports his client and what his client wants to the fullest. He will rally behind you and fight in front of you for the best outcome possible!

I was referred to Mike McDonald, and cannot say enough about him and his team. Mike's experience and passion for his clients needs shows thru as soon as you meet him. In this case, I had a back injury from an auto accident. The defendant's insurance company wasn't accepting full responsibility for the situation. Despite 4 years of all this back and forth, Mike stayed very professional, kept me informed, and what helped the most, he kept my head in the game when I was ready to quit, just due to frustration at the situation. I'm so thankful I listened to him instead of giving in to the insurance company's antics. The results far exceeded my expectations and the insurance companies offer by about 10x Thank you again Mike, Alyce, and Claire!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
