2
Excellent communication and attention to detail, ensuring the client fully understands the legal process
“just the prperation and communicatioon proccess alone sets him apart from any other lawyler i have ever considerd. Mr zimmerman is ver comunicative, and over looks no detail, every and everything, you go over with and have a full conversation and get into detail, this leaves nothing missed aswell as helps give myself, the client a full understanding of everything.”
3
Personalized and caring approach, with the entire firm treating clients with professionalism and compassion

Cons
1
Disorganized and forgetful, with the lawyer repeatedly requiring the client to provide the same information
“I felt like I was dealing with someone lacking an ability to form long-term memories. Each time we spoke, I had to repeat all the details I had already provided 'in writining' and discussed more than twice.”
2
Prioritizes money over the client's needs, with the lawyer dropping the case when the client could not pay additional fees
“He took over $4000 grand from me and did NOTHING!!!!!!!!!! Then because he required ANOTHER $4000 grand and I could not pay it up front he dropped my case.”
3
Incompetent and unprofessional, with the lawyer making mistakes and failing to complete tasks
“He never listened to a word we said, constantly gave the courts wrong information and charged for everything he did (even tasks he repeated because he either made errors). He would call my phone and leave a message and then immediately call my girlfriend's phone and leave a message and charge $75 for EACH message!”

There are defining moments in life where you can make a difference that truly shape the course and future of a child's life. Paul Zimmerman changed the course of my child's life with his knowledge, expertise, commitment and heart. Our case, a custody relocation case, was extremely complex, lengthy and without question critical to my child's wholeness and future. Navigating an overburdened county legal system, comprehending, recalling and directing immense data and details in both scale and degree while managing me as client with my fears and worries about an uncertain future if unsuccessful was not a task for the faint of heart. Mr. Zimmerman's expertise to present questioning, direct testimony and never failing commitment to detail that "might be just the piece of information to convey the truth of the story" is a true gift. Family legal battles are usually the result of a breakdown in the family unit and always result in loss and pain. Mr. Zimmerman approached our case exactly as you would want a hero to approach anything, with a calm presence of confidence, the work ethic of an Olympian and the heart of a father that sees children in need as deserving of a hero. His knowledge of the law and how the law can be leveraged to fairly and brilliantly fight for the real victims (children) is profound. Parents who care about their children and their future can depend on Paul Zimmerman to be the best of the best.

I worked with Paul S. Zimmerman on a custody/family law issue. He was supportive, knowledgeable, and very efficient at every turn, bringing the case to resolution quickly and painlessly. I found the rate to be very reasonable, especially for the amount of personal attention I received. He took the time to answer every question, no matter how trivial, and made me feel like my case was important to him. I would recommend working with Paul and this law firm for your legal needs.

Paul Zimmerman is the worst. He said the $1200 retainer would take my girlfriend through to the start of a custody trial and then he gave us a bill for an additional $1200 (for a total of $2400) and said he wanted that and an additional $3500 up front before the trial began which would be fine EXCEPT he didn't do his job. He never listened to a word we said, constantly gave the courts wrong information and charged for everything he did (even tasks he repeated because he either made errors). He would call my phone and leave a message and then immediately call my girlfriend's phone and leave a message and charge $75 for EACH message! How about you stop leaving two messages within a minute of each other? Idiot. He was also responsible for typing up a letter for witnesses to sign and got every single detail wrong, NEVER actually mailed them out and then charged $150 each for mailing them. How can you charge for something you didn't do? I've never met a more incompetent lawyer in my entire life. I can't speak on the other lawyers but avoid Paul Zimmerman at all costs.

Lindsay has been assisting our entity for two and a half years. She was very professional and efficient in her efforts to keep a complicated legal matter in the forefront with all involved parties. Once the litigation was settled, she was very instrumental in assisting us with renewing our insurance policy as well as working out the details of a new management contract. Lindsay is a problem solving professional, always striving to resolve issues. I feel confident in the advice she provides and continue to appreciate her willingness to put forth the effort for positive results. I am thankful our corporation is a client of her and her law firm.

Jozefa directed me in how to navigate through challenging situations where children are being used as means of retaliation for divorce. She is knowledgeable, involved, a strong advocate for me and my children. Ms. Jackson truly understands the situation and is both compassionate and strong in keeping my focus on workable outcomes.

I had spoken to a few lawyers prior to hiring Ms Jackson, her consultation was the first one that made me feel heard and understood; like she truly saw the big and small picture. I felt like an actual person instead of another client. Thanks to her the court process was simple and even my minor stress points were given attention and care through the whole process. I believe she specializes in custody, but she handled my whole divorce and put down all the mischaracterized accusations thrown my way. I have a fair and equitable post divorce and suffered no serious damages to credit or other typical post divorce losses. I got the 50/50 custody arrangement I petitioned for and see my child often, and have equal authority towards her well being. I would hire Jozefa again in a heart beat, and truly believe that if I hired anyone else I would not have been successful in defending myself.

The attorneys and staff at McDonald At Law were very caring about the injuries I suffered and genuinely seemed concerned about me as a person, and not just a case or someone to make money off of. Attorney McDonald supports his client and what his client wants to the fullest. He will rally behind you and fight in front of you for the best outcome possible!

I was referred to Mike McDonald, and cannot say enough about him and his team. Mike's experience and passion for his clients needs shows thru as soon as you meet him. In this case, I had a back injury from an auto accident. The defendant's insurance company wasn't accepting full responsibility for the situation. Despite 4 years of all this back and forth, Mike stayed very professional, kept me informed, and what helped the most, he kept my head in the game when I was ready to quit, just due to frustration at the situation. I'm so thankful I listened to him instead of giving in to the insurance company's antics. The results far exceeded my expectations and the insurance companies offer by about 10x Thank you again Mike, Alyce, and Claire!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
