Where to start...2008 my friend referred Melissa to me regarding my custody fight. We started our journey sometime in May of 2008, as a single father trying to gain custody of my 2 daughters I knew I would need a good lawyer. Boy was I surprised, I had been introduced to the best most dedicated honest straight shooting tell how it is attorney. Melissa not only win my case but has continued to assist in my ongoing issues with the mother. Melissa is very caring and dedicated. Melissa wide array of experience in family law place head and shoulders above the rest. I would rate note only Melissa but the entire Johnson Duffy firm a perfect 10! My family and I will forever be indebted to Melissa for her passion and dedication in my case. Thank you Melissa from the bottom of my heart!

Melissa Greevy represented me for multiple child custody hearings. Lets face it Divorce is a less then ideal thing to go through. Add in figuring out child custody and its just down right miserable. As a father it was very important to me to to share physical and legal custody of my child. As a man I thought this was going to be a challenging battle, because I bought into a common misconception that fathers were not treated as equals to mothers in custody court. The court process was lengthy and complicated I do admit, but not overwhelming with excellent advice and legal counsel from Melissa. I would recommend Melissa and Johnson Duffie to anyone looking for excellent legal representation during a challenging time. Their legal expertise and guidance will certianly give you peace of mind, and excellent legal representation.

I reached out to attorney Greevy at the advice of a friend who has used her in the past. She’s very passionate and aggressive; that’s what I needed. I paid her 300$ consultation fee.... we talked for about an hour and I didn’t catch her “vicious” vibe that I was told about; she reviewed my legal documents and discussed our potential plan of action.... following our phone call; I received an email from Melissa stating that she would be handing my case over to another attorney in her office..... confused; I asked her why- I wanted HER to fight for me and my child..... she OFFERED for me to interview this attorney before making any decisions and paying the retainer. I spoke with the other attorney and did not in any way feel that attorney was the one for my case. So, I backed out- and hired another attorney(s) with a different firm- won the case... life is back to normal.... I randomly get a bill, in the mail from Melissa’s law office- billing me for a review of the legal documents (isn’t that covered in a consultation) - also for my interview with the other attorney that Melissa OFFERED me to do..... so- this firm wants me to pay 500$ for ..... nothing. For a 1 hr consultation.... after being blown off by Melissa and just thrown onto someone who was completely not fit to handle the emergency petition thrown our way.

Compassion should be Casey’s middle name. All she cared about from our first conversation was the well being of my children as if they were her own. She was extremely responsive and helped me through one of the most difficult times in my life. She handled my case with such grace and dignity at a time when I needed her the most. My previous lawyer steered me so wrong so it was a blessing I found her. She was very honest about outcomes and I’m glad to say I thought of her as a friend. She is amazing and she puts her heart into her cases and gets results. I was dealing with a narcissist and someone who lied compulsively and she was able to get the judge to see through all of it and get to the truth. I would recommend her to anyone, I’m in NY now and wish I could take her with me to fight the big fight here but she has gotten me so far in this fight and I’m forever grateful to her and her team. Thank you Casey! (And Mandy and Judi!)

Robert was hired on our behalf to represent us in a civil case that our neighbor filed against us in Magisterial court. He was hired on a short notice of 1 week and represented us thoroughly, he was thorough in his investigation, prepared us for the court and also was insightful in his arguments. He knows his job like no other we have seen. We did lose the case in Magisterial court but that was a biased opinion of a magisterate who chose to ignore all laws despite presenting all the evidence. We were able to reverse the judgement that would have cost us 8000$ via appeal and the opponents knew they had no case and did not pursue it. Robert always followed up and explained all the steps to us. We are thankful that Liberty Mutual hired him for us and we were able to retain him throughout. We do not hope to ever need a lawyer but will definitely hire him again if need be.

Attorney Robert Joseph Schweiger Jr. was exceptionally helpful in resolving my case. He was very timely in communication over email, and was even able to negotiate a substantial reduction for my settlement fee. As a college student, I was very fortunate to have Attorney Schweiger represent me. Thank you so much!

I have consulted with Mr Sembach multiple times now. Each and every time he takes his time to collect the facts and do his research to give me the best advice possible. I have not needed to hire him yet, but if I ever need the legal help, he will be my man. I would recommend him to anyone.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lemoyne, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
