When your parents pass, we as children are left to handle everything. My father prepared me before he died for pretty much everything and that included Christine at Zacharia Brown. From the day I called her for help she was there for me every step of the way. Highly recommend for anyone who is left to pick up the pieces after a death.

We struck gold when we found Christine Brown. Our first meeting was through Zoom and by the time we were done we knew she was the one. There was no need for us to interview another lawyer. Throughout the process of setting up our will and our trust, Christine has been so helpful, kind, patient with us. She is knowledgeable and explains things to us in a way we can understand, considering we have no legal background. We appreciate her availability and her flexibility. If you are on the fence please pull the trigger and hire Christine. I promise you will not regret it.

My father, since April 2022, has had a series of falls, resulting in breaking his shoulder and both hips and a stroke, which resulted in him living with a peg tube and being immobile. Dad also has dementia. Taking care of him full-time was nearly impossible. He needed long-term, round-the-clock care. I was referred to Zacharia Brown Elder Law Offices, and I cannot sing their praises enough. From start to finish, Carl's expertise, compassion, and dedication left a lasting impression on me. Carl went above and beyond to ensure my concerns and needs were met. From the initial consultation, he exuded professionalism and made me feel comfortable discussing Dad’s situation. He took the time to thoroughly explain the process with multiple options, ensuring that I understood the process of getting long-term care. One aspect that truly impressed me was Carl's deep knowledge of elder law. He possessed a breadth of understanding in many areas of elder law, though our needs were limited to long-term care planning, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. This breadth of knowledge allowed him to provide comprehensive and integrated solutions tailored to our unique situation. Carl’s team was also exceptionally knowledgeable and incredibly patient, attentive, and compassionate. They recognized the unique challenges faced by Dad's case and showed genuine empathy throughout the process. Their kindness and understanding helped alleviate stress during what could have otherwise been a daunting ordeal. What truly set this law firm apart was its unwavering commitment. Carl consistently maintained open lines of communication, promptly addressing my questions and concerns way into the night. He provided regular updates on the progress of our application, ensuring I was always well-informed. Furthermore, the team exhibited exceptional attention to detail and thoroughness. Carl and Maureen meticulously reviewed all necessary documents, leaving no stone unturned. This level of dedication gave us great peace of mind, knowing that Carl and his team would handle things with the utmost care and diligence. Overall, our experience with the Zacharia - Brown was exceptional. Thanks to their expertise and guidance, we can keep Dad in long-term care. I highly recommend Carl at Zacharia Brown to anyone in need of elder law services. His unwavering commitment, combined with his vast expertise, makes him a true gem in the elder law industry

I hired Joe to represent me in finalizing a pro se divorce case. From the initial consultation, to the filing of the final paperwork, I found it easy to arrange meetings, and always had quick answers to my questions. He took care of paperwork that I never would have known about, and kept the communication going so that I was fully aware of important dates in the timeline. If I needed representation again, I would definitely give him a call.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mcmurray, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
