This attorney does not respond to calls or e mails and does not complete paperwork timely or correctly. He filed incorrect paperwork even after I told him the other party was from the petition. I began my search for an attorney late August 2017. I spoke with Mr. Banks for a phone consultation and he had a good pitch and selling points. I agree to work with him and he told me that they would be in contact with me no later than two days after I paid my retainer fee. I paid my retainer fee on Monday August 21st. I did not hear anything from anyone in his office and on Friday I called the office to see what was going on. They reassured me that I would hear from someone by 3p.m. EST. At 4 p.m. EST I called again. It went straight to voicemail of each staff member I tried to contact. I was not contacted until close to 5 p.m. GMT, which is 7p.m. EST. Finally I was able to speak to an attorney in his firm named Connor Line, who of all things was going on vacation for the next week. He reassured me however that he would still wprk on my paperwork while he was on vacation; leaving me to believe it would be filed by the end of the week. That did not happen. They did not even send me a invoice for the petition to modify until 10 days after my conversation with him. My petition to modify was finally submitted filed September 15th. That is 25 days (3 and a half weeks) after paying the retainer fee with very little to no communication. Before Connor Line filed the petition he forwarded me a copy. I told him that it did not include one of the other parties and asked if he can fix it before he filed. I did not hear from him until he emailed me to confirm that paperwork was filed. On October 4th I called the courts to find out if a hearing had been scheduled. I found out that the paperwork did not include the other party that I had told Connor Line was missing and had to be ammended. He failed to fill out the paperwork properly even after I pointed out about the possible indiscretion. At that time I contacted Connor line and asked what was going on. He said that he did not know how to fix the paperwork and was waiting for the judge to tell him what to do and I would most likely hear from him the following day. That was October 4th. I did not hear back from him again until October 13th, when he told me that he would get in touch with me within two days. It is now October 22nd, two months after I paid my original retainer to Matthew Banks law firm and I still don't know what is going on with my petition to modify custody case. During this mix-up with Connor Line Junior Litigant of the Banks Law Group I called Matthew Banks to find out what was going on. He told me that his attorneys were busy and courts and that is why so many people hire them. That is no excuse for my case to still not have a court date or even knowing what is going on with the petition. Its been two months since I paid my retainer.... what is going on?

I believed in Mr Jacobs after our first talk! He listened, believed, and gave me no doubt that, he will fight hard for me. The whole process went quick. He kept me well informed the whole way. After what happened to me I was stressed, embarrassed, and over all depressed. When everything was finished I felt some redemption, satisfaction, and ready to move forward from the negative incident. Thanks for picking me back up! From the first call until our final handshake, he fought hard for me! If you want honesty, and good old fashion hard work, than Mr. Jacobs is the lawyer for you!

When our current elder law attorney retired, I was relieved to find an attorney who was knowledgeable and able to help me to make sure that all of my father's advance directives were in order so that his wishes can be respected. Everyone at this firm was friendly and helpful. Additionally, they assured me that they are there to help me if I ever need assistance in the future.

All of the Keystone Elder Law staff are excellent. I used their services for establishing POA for my husband & myself as well as advanced directives. They assisted me to apply for services that were needed when my husband entered a long term care facility. The staff @ this firm are truly like family. They have a great sense of humor & empathy & assisted me through a very dark, difficult time in my life. I would recommend their services.

Ms Misturak Gingrich was general counsel for the United Telephone Company/Sprint for Pennsylvania & NJ. I worked with Ms Gingrich on many environmental and real estate issues while we were colleques. Following employment with United Tel/Sprint Ms Gingrich provided legal opinions for me related to personal and business matters. I recently completed a divorce and Ms Gingrich was extremely helpful in dealing with real estate issues related to the transfer of property assets and cleaning up Deed related issues for my property. She was also very helpful in working with lenders and title companies to help resolve and close all the open issues

Kathleen was extremely supportive, including contacting me while she was on vacation. Her philosophy that "information is enpowering" is right in line with mine, her high moral and ethical standards are and were exactly what I wanted. When I first met Kathleen and her firm I felt like I had come home. She guided me through some delicate legal maneuvering with her knowledge and experience protecting my corporation and myself masterfully! She truly cares about her clients as individuals and puts herself out there for her clients when needed, regardless of time, or her own circumstances. If you need her she will be there!

first of all, she is a wonderful human being. she is patient, ambitious, detail oriented, very determined and her knowledge of business law is unmatched. she is very sincere and she cares about her clients, not only professionally but personally. i hired her for a business contract between me and the landlord. she walked with me thoroughly and explained everything in detail just to make sure the landlord did not have the advantage over me. she was willing to take the extra step to come to my house just to make sure i understand and know what i'm getting myself into.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
