I recently had the pleasure of working with Kevin, and I can't recommend him highly enough. From the moment we first talked, Kevin demonstrated a remarkable level of professionalism and genuine care for my case. What truly stood out was how he took the time to thoroughly answer all my questions, no matter how small or complex. His patience and clarity made a world of difference, easing my concerns and helping me feel confident throughout the process. Kevin's dedication and expertise were evident in every interaction, and his thoughtful approach made a challenging situation much more manageable. If you're looking for a lawyer who genuinely invests in your case and provides exceptional support, Kevin is the one to choose.

I’ve referred clients to Alicia Fastman over the years that were in need of a family law attorney. I’m a lawyer, but don’t practice family law so when I need a referral in that area Alicia is my go-to. She’s personable, attentive and respected among other lawyers in the area. I’ve seen Alicia use a collaborative approach but also go to war depending on the client’s needs and wants. I would not hesitate to call Alicia for all your divorce/custody needs. I always want my clients to be happy and I always get good reports back after sending them Alicia’s way.

Highly disappointed and dissatisfied with the level of service and communication from Fastman Family Law. While they were very initially responsive, after going under retainer, I’ve only experienced continued struggles for any type of timely response to phone call and email outreach. Not to mention, they do not provide any direct phone numbers to their attorneys, so that you are unable to reach them directly. Despite multiple phone calls, voicemails, and emails, my matters continue to be unattended. I understand bandwidth and priorities may vary, but communication is critical through these very important and time sensitive matters. If their team doesn’t have the ability to work on my case, all I ask is for transparency so that I can find someone who can. Going multiple days with no response and being left in the dark is unacceptable. I’ve worked with many legal firms in my line of work over the past 10+ years, and this has by far been the worst experience I’ve ever had.

Michael represented my preservation group Save Marple Greenspace and, later, the Whetstone Coalition which both fought to protect a 213 acre forested area in Delaware County. His knowledge of land use, zoning, and environmental law helped us fight off a very wealthy developer who had a platoon of attorneys. They were no match for Michael. He vanquished them, horse and foot.

Len Sloane is a fantastic attorney. He is thorough, timely, responsive, and a pleasure with which to work. He explained to me each step of the process and answered all of my questions. The size of the case did not matter to Len. He helped me settle a medium-sized traffic accident case. I would recommend Len to a stranger, a friend, and to a family member. Hopefully, I will not need a lawyer in the future but if I do, I will call Len Sloane at the Law Offices of Eckell Sparks.

Mr. Sloane is an extremely efficient as well as passionate attorney. He was always up to date on my case status whenever I asked him and was able to answer all my questions in terms that I was able to understand. He made me feel very comfortable with the legal process and gave helpful instructions when it came time to give a deposition. I was extremely satisfied with the results of my lawsuit and, if legal circumstances arise again, will be giving him a call first.

Mr Habakkuk was a hands on attorney dealing with our deceased parent's estate. He has the knowledge and experience but I found most importantly his communication skills and handling the family 'dynamics' so to say were exemplary. I have hired attorneys in the past and they were both horrible in keeping me abreast of the case or any explanations in the various stages let alone what to expect. My Haburcak had to deal with multiple siblings and their personalities which could have easily complicated matters in the situation at hand if he left us in the dark or didn't address our questions or individual needs. We will certainly hire him again especially when we purchase our next home too for he is also a licensed real estate broker. Getting a call back from him anytime was a none issue. Another thing the other attorneys didn't respect... returning calls

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Media, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
