I needed an attorney to be in court the day after Labor day. I had hired an attorney, but that Friday they called to let me know they were unable to take my case. I was lost. I called Attorney Papa and his office had him contact me right away. We spoke a few times over the holiday weekend, and I hired him on Monday and his firm was in court for me on Tuesday. Don't know any other attorney that does that!! Thank you Attorney Papa.

A family member was unfairly criminally charged in a local college town in this area. Officers were being aggressive. The college disciplinary process was notified. From the moment Mr. Papa stepped in we saw immediate relief from pressure from law enforcement and the school. Mr. Papa developed and executed a plan to have the case dismissed, the school case dismissed, and records preserved. Mr. Papa seemed very well connected in the local system and we were thankful for the help to close this situation. It was very uncomfortable facing unwarranted charges in a small town and we needed help and he delivered.

I wanted to create a Will, so I called Chris Papa. His team gave me a call-in appointment that following week to begin the process of creating the Will and Power of Attorney. When I called in at my appointment day and time, there was no answer. Left a voicemail. Called again 5 minutes later. Never an answer, no call back. I don't want to rate Mr. Papa lower than he deserves, but I was disappointed to have been set up with an appointment that he didn't honor.

We recently had the privilege of Attorney Angelo Papa representing our son in a divorce proceeding. Attorney Papa’s knowledge of the law and experience were evident from our first meeting. his calming demeanor and thorough understanding of the clients needs further impacted his approach throughout our proceedings seeing his client on a personal basis, rather than just a case, made us feel very comfortable. Attorney Papa’s staff were all very helpful and responsive. All deadlines were met with ease. Although I’m sure his caseload is very heavy, we never felt like just a number. He was committed to us on all levels. We would highly recommend using his law firm.

Attorney Christopher Papa did an outstanding job on our case. We were trying to stop a sand and gravel mining project, and unfortunately did not contact Attorney Papa until after the third hearing on the matter. Had he been present from the start, he could have questioned their witnesses, and brought even more facts into play. Regardless, he jumped in with both feet and submitted a 20 plus page report supporting our position with past case law and reasons why that particular business model was not a good fit for our area, in addition to coming and representing us in person at the next hearing. He is very friendly and outgoing, and very easy to talk to. He also appeared to be well-known and well liked by other individuals that worked in our local legal system. The mining operation pulled all of their applications, deciding not to proceed in our area after that hearing, and I believe his presence and his report had a great deal to do with it. If you are fighting such a legal battle, don’t hesitate to contact Attorney Papa from the start!

I am so pleased with the service that Kathleen has provided us since my injury. We call Dallas Hartman after seeing a television commercial about workers' compensation. I was getting my benefits but I thought it would not hurt to get an expert opinion. Everyone I dealt with was so nice and Kathleen took my information and told me to let her know if anything changes. When my employer tried to stop paying my benefits before I could return to work, Kathleen jumped into action. I am so thankful for her help. It never cost me anything and with her help she was able to get my benefits continued for almost a year. I highly recommend Kathleen Robertson if you have been hurt at work.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of New Castle, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
