I cannot recommend attorney John McMahon highly enough. His professionalism and relenting determination in representing his clients are truly unmatched. When faced with unsubstantiated charges, I turned to John and he exceeded every expectation. In court, John was a bulldog- assertive, strategic and fiercely protective of my rights. He meticulously dissected the charges and exposed the lack of evidence, leaving no room for doubt about my innocence. His courtroom presence is commanding. His ability to think on his feet is remarkable. John's negotiation skills with the district attorney's office were equally impressive. He worked tirelessly behind the scenes to have the charges dismissed after my pre-trial hearings. He leveraging his deep knowledge of the law and his relationships within the legal system to gain the best outcomes. His guidance throughout the process made an otherwise stressful situation more manageable. If you need a lawyer who will fight for you every step of the way he is the one that you want in your corner. He is a true advocate who gets results. I'm forever grateful for his expertise and support!!!

Considering this was our families first experience with the justice system, John's tone was comforting and reassuring prior to each court appearance. I will definitely use his services in the future.

When you need a lawyer, a lot of times, it's because you're in trouble. I have used her (and have sent everyone I know to her) on more than one occasion throughout the years, and decided to join the other people on this list in saying something about her!!!! Though I haven't always used her for trouble, the first time I did! I remember being on the stand, and SO nervous and scared, I just froze. I looked at her, and I was in such a panic!!!! I will NEVER forget her just looking and me, and she just gave me a big smile, a wink and a nod to go on, and I immediately relaxed and just told my side of what happened. At that moment, I felt like my best friend had my back, and everything was going to be ok!!!! And, miraculously, IT WAS!!!! That was my first experience with her. My next, was my divorce. She absolutely understood the difficulty in it, and though I wasn't really up to the fight, she was!!!! It was almost like a mother lion protecting a cub!!! LOL!!! Though I didn't realize it at the time, I needed just that!!! Thankfully, she realized it though and took care of business!!!! Next, she represented one of the most important people in my life. My 83 year old father, and did it as if he was her own father- and for that, I can never thank her enough! I was so upset and she was just like....a Pitbull (or AGAIN, the mother lion) for no other words!!! She looked out for him EXACTLY the way I would have been in protecting him!!! My father was a Sergeant in the Marine Corp., worked the same job for 50 years, and has been married to my mother for 64 years, and is my absolute hero. When someone hurt him, I brought him to her, and she didn't take that lightly. She has ALWAYS gone to bat not only for me, but my family and my friends as well, no matter how big or small the issue was. I have to say, I am extremely happy and grateful to have her as my attorney!!! It's almost like when you find a good mechanic, MD, or Dentist, and you are loyal and trust them with all your important things. I am lucky enough to say, I can add her to my list of most important "go to," people in my life! Thank you for always making me feel as though I have not only a prize fighter in my corner of the ring, but a friend!!!!! Danese

Excellant Lawyer, I have used Kate Kelly 3 seperate times over the past 20 years and have found her to be very professional . If she was not available to take a call because of being in court, her office handled the call and Kate returned the call the same day !! She recently handled a property transfer for me in Monroe County and it went very smooth !!! I would recommend her any day !!!!

Frank gave me free advice on a potential case I had with a hospital. He was honest and respectful. On top of that he pinpointed the exact conditions that needed to occur for me to have a case. He saved me a lot of time that I would have spent pursuing a lost cause.

Frank took our case when another "lawyer" said we had no case!! With that, Frank was able to get us over 450K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, the insurance carrier denied our first party benefits and Frank would not let that stand. He took the time and made every effort to make sure we were made whole. If you ever need a lawyer who will treat you as a person and not just a "fee" Frank is that Lawyer. Before you make that most important decision on who will represent you in your law suit, please take the time to talk to Frank. It will be the best decision you could ever make.

Mr. Murphy was an incredible lawyer. He always told me the different approaches that they would try against my case. We talked openly and trustfully. He fought a very long time for this case and left nothing undone. He is an incredible man that I am so happy I finally found after a long search. I really can't seem to find the words to voice my appreciation for him and his firm.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Norristown, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
