Joseph was exceptional at getting my case resolved. He worked diligently to handle the dispute without it having to go to arbitration. He worked with both sides and made sure my needs were met and that everyone was happy with the results. He was excellent at representing me. I would highly recommend him.

Attorney Joseph Mattia is an exceptional attorney. He’s very professional, knowledgeable and filled with empathy for his clients. With the unethical practices of insurance companies, I was determined to fight for righteousness. And by the grace of God, this was the only law firm I found willing to take my case on a denied accidental insurance policy death claim..I took a chance, called them and immediately knew I’d made the right decision. From the initial online interview, I was advised that Boonswanger Law Firm would accept my case. After the initial investigative work, I was introduced to Joseph, he contacted me that he would be handling my case. I really had mixed feelings initially because this was not a very lucrative case in monetary terms. However, throughout this endeavor I was treated as though Joseph was handling a million dollar case. He never failed to immediately answer my texts, he constantly kept me informed of everything as the case progressed, more importantly was his sincere empathy for me as a person and the horrendous death of my loved one. Honestly, with the unscrupulous practices of some insurance companies, I never really believed I would get nearly the sum Joseph got fir me. He was diligent, sincere, professional, patient and sincerely concerned that I received a positive outcome..and I did. There are not many law firms that would take on the the large insurance companies for minimal financial results…I found one and recommend this firm to anyone. Anyone out there being denied or dismissed by denied insurance claims, call them…we really need a class action and this is where we should go. My sincere thanks Joseph and the Boonswanger Law Firm.

Pros
1
Exceptional legal expertise and experience in handling life insurance claims
“Absolutely stellar. It's more the exception than the rule in this day and age to find an attorney who is passionate, compassionate and truly results driven. Chad Boonswang is that exception profoundly. Hands down he's the best of the best!”

3
Responsive and transparent communication throughout the legal process
“Joseph and the entire Boonswang Law Firm team displayed an unwavering commitment to my case. They meticulously gathered evidence, conducted thorough investigations, and navigated the complex legal landscape with precision and tenacity.”
4
Ability to achieve favorable outcomes even in difficult or denied cases
“The Boonswang Law Firm took on my case when other Lawyers Turned me down and told me I didn't have a chance... they told me from the Jump they will accept my case and do all they can to bring it to a successful conclusion and that is exactly what they did.”
5
Compassionate and understanding approach during difficult times
“From the beginning of the first phone call to the very end when the results were provided to me, this firm and Mr. Mattia and his fellow co-workers were amazing. They rescued me during a very dark and depressing state.”
Cons
1
Inconsistent communication and responsiveness from some staff members
“Carolina had chose to misinterpret a statement that was not favorable to my situation, As she had not even taken the effort to read the remaining documents to actually gain understanding the next 30 pages.”
2
Unwillingness to take on cases deemed unprofitable or unwinnable
“DO NOT BOTHER HIRING THIS FIRM!!!! Over 2 years of waiting to be dropped. Initially the amount I thought I was entitled to was a lot less than what the insurance company stated and I didn't have the documents to prove it. Instead of the firm dropping me over a year ago when they obviously decided it wasn't significant enough to bother to fight for.”

Excellent attorney. When my office becomes involved in a complicated Real estate matter Mr. Hayes is the first person I will contact. He is very well respeected in the Title Insurance industry and he is an excellent trial lawyer . I have had the pleasure to be in the Court Room with Mr. Hayes and found him to be very well prepared and in total command of the client's case .

Attorney Youman has the qualities one would expect and hope for from a lawyer. I hired Mr. Youman for a malpractice suit. Mr. Youman’s law firm, Kline & Specter, is a leader in malpractice litigation. This is easy to believe given Mr. Youman’s skill. Mr. Youman stated from the outset what and what not to expect. He made no outrageous promises, yet fought for me every step of the way. Aside from aggressively pursuing justice, I was quite impressed with Mr. Youman’s knowledge and insights about malpractice law and procedures. He actually made the case look easy (although it was not)! Even further, Mr. Youman and his support staff ran a very efficient operation. Phone calls and emails were promptly returned. Professionalism and courtesy were ever-present. And, of course, we won the case -- despite a formidable and powerful opponent. Highly recommended.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What challenges do you foresee in my case?
Understanding potential obstacles helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to resolve my legal issue?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
