The attorney that handled my case was confident, proficient & professional. The two admins that I dealt with at the office were knowledgeable & helpful. I was nervous because this was the first time I had to go to court but I was relieved when it was over & it turned out better than i thought it would.

I had a horrible problem with mice at my last apartment and my landlord was unwilling to resolve the issue. I had just renewed my lease weeks before this became an issue. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get out of my lease without help, so I called Jeffrey. He was very quick to answer email and phone messages and worked very hard to get me out of my lease. I have lived happily at my new apartment ever since.

I had a awful mice infestation in my home and my landlord wasn’t willing to fix the problem. I was completely devastated and quickly realized that I would need an attorney in order to get out of my lease. I randomly came acrosss Jeffrey’s number and he called me back the same day. So thankful I picked him because he immediately went to work, listened to my problem, calmed me down and ensured me he would help me. His fee was very reasonable and he was very responsive and followed through. I got out of my lease in a timely manner and got my deposit back in full. Jeffrey is a good person and has a passion for his profession. Highly recommend!

Fall semester I started looking for apartments for the next academic year. I signed a lease and paid a deposit on one I thought I'd like. The building never followed up or even acknowledged that they had received these materials. Fast forward to about February. A good friend of mine asked me to move in to the soon to be empty room in her house on campus. Because I had still not received a signed and executed copy of the lease for the apartment, I did not think the lease was valid. I sent a written letter to the building notifying them I was no longer interested to which they responded with an email welcoming me to the WRONG BUILDING. This is when Jeffrey comes in and saves the day. He called the landlord right away and explained all of my requests. He gave me a few options of how we could handle it. we reached a stalemate with the landlord for maybe about a month when we were just going to wait them out and see what happend. Eventually, the landlord reached out again and Jeffrey negotiated to get me out of the lease. I never had to deal with the landlord myself because he was always there to talk to them for me. AND he saved me quite a bit of money in potential apartment rent! He is very dedicated, super affordable, and not afraid to take on a challenge. Before I had finally found Jeffrey, I had consulted a few lawyers who were unwilling to take my case and did not believe I even had one. In addition, he's super understanding and willing to work for students. Overall, Jeffrey is an awesome attorney and really saved my life with this one!

Kaitlyn Mazur of Metka Law is an awesome attorney! She obtained a very favorable outcome for us in our custody case. She over delivered and gave an outstanding closing argument. We could not ask for better representation!

Excellent attorney. When my office becomes involved in a complicated Real estate matter Mr. Hayes is the first person I will contact. He is very well respeected in the Title Insurance industry and he is an excellent trial lawyer . I have had the pleasure to be in the Court Room with Mr. Hayes and found him to be very well prepared and in total command of the client's case .

Attorney Youman has the qualities one would expect and hope for from a lawyer. I hired Mr. Youman for a malpractice suit. Mr. Youman’s law firm, Kline & Specter, is a leader in malpractice litigation. This is easy to believe given Mr. Youman’s skill. Mr. Youman stated from the outset what and what not to expect. He made no outrageous promises, yet fought for me every step of the way. Aside from aggressively pursuing justice, I was quite impressed with Mr. Youman’s knowledge and insights about malpractice law and procedures. He actually made the case look easy (although it was not)! Even further, Mr. Youman and his support staff ran a very efficient operation. Phone calls and emails were promptly returned. Professionalism and courtesy were ever-present. And, of course, we won the case -- despite a formidable and powerful opponent. Highly recommended.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
