I had an issue with my past employer at the time. As the issue was clear cut on the surface, the details were complicated, and I didn't know how to go about it and even if I should talk to an attorney. But when I finally decided to contact one, I managed to find Mike, who was nothing short of being helpful and understanding. Dealing with the tech industry can be pretty complicated but Mike was not only able to provide competent legal advice with a greatest candor, but also got the details of my work, and understood it to the extent that litigation went very smooth (and this is a great achievement on its own given how stressful legalities can be to a non-lawyer). I always felt comfortable and never felt overlooked by either Mike or his team at any time. Moreover, they were very supportive and flexible with a payment plan, offering a superb service all-around. After litigation, Mike was even empathetic towards my situation; he's not only a legal genius (you can tell when you talk to him), but also a good guy. We prevailed in court and I am as happy as one can be to leave all my troubles behind me. I highly respect Mike and if ever I have legal trouble in the future, he is on my list of people to reach out to if I ever need (for whatever reason that may arise).

I needed someone that had expertise with ERISA law and consulted with multiple attorneys before finding my way to Mike. I was dealing with a life insurance claim after losing my spouse. Needless to say this was a very difficult and scary time for me. Mike put me at ease from the moment I met him. He absolutely knows this area of the law extremely well and knew the proper way to handle this issue. I found him to be very fair and reasonable with the fee agreement. While it took a long time to resolve, as legal matters often do, Mike never gave up. He kept me informed along the way, talked with me about what was going on, discussed strategy with me and persisted. All the while, he was kind, honest and understanding. In the end, he was able to resolve my claim and got me 100% of the benefit that was owed to me. My family and I could not be more grateful for Mike's knowledge, skill and expertise on this matter.

Mike never backed down! He knows the law and fought tooth and nail to assure the insurance company paid me the benefits that was due me. In the end, because of Mike’s expertise the insurance company reinstated my benefits. I highly recommend Mike and his staff.

Words cannot express my gratitude to attorney, Michael J. Salmonson of Salmonson Goldshaw P.C. I found myself in situation that lead to an unfair suspension without pay from my job. A close friend's husband immediately referred me to Michael J. Salmonson. Mr. Salmonson and his team quickly responded to my call, even though I called on Saturday. I was so impressed with the understanding shown to me during that awful time. I called and emailed Mr. Salmonson and Andi Paul numerous times during this incident asking for advice and guidance with my written and verbal communication with my employer and they responded each and every time. I want to publicly thank Mr. Salmonson and his wonderful assistant, Andi for their kindness, support, professionalism, and overall performance with this matter. He guided all of my actions throughout the entire process in a timely manner. Fortunately, the matter was resolved successfully and my pay was reimbursed retroactively. I highly recommend Mr. Salmonson and his firm to my family, friends, and anyone seeking legal help for an employment issue at their job. Mr. Salmonson gets the job done!

I hired Mike to help me negotiate a lump sum settlement form my disability claim. His office manager was fantastic and very helpful. Mike was very thorough and it quickly became evident that he a lot of experience dealing with disability insurance companies. He clearly explained the options available to me and ultimately negotiated a deal that was considerably larger than what the insurance company had originally proposed. Hiring Mike to handle my claim was the right choice, and I am grateful for his assistance.

Angela took such good care of us. She worked with my wife and me through the adoption of our second child. In that process she also caught and fixed an error in our first child’s adoption made by a previous law firm. She was kind, clear, timely and supportive. She held our hands through the process of setting up our will and making lots of important decisions. We can’t recommend Angela enough! I wish we had found her at the beginning of our adoption journey.

Truly cannot recommend Angela enough — she made the estate planning process as painless as it could possibly be and was able to offer profoundly helpful, real-world answers to all of my questions. No one wants to contemplate their own death and the aftermath — but as Angela advised me, one of most loving things we can do for those we leave behind is to have a plan. I’m very pleased with my experience and feel so much better knowing that I leave my loved ones with the certainty of my wishes. Thanks Angela!

Attorney Youman has the qualities one would expect and hope for from a lawyer. I hired Mr. Youman for a malpractice suit. Mr. Youman’s law firm, Kline & Specter, is a leader in malpractice litigation. This is easy to believe given Mr. Youman’s skill. Mr. Youman stated from the outset what and what not to expect. He made no outrageous promises, yet fought for me every step of the way. Aside from aggressively pursuing justice, I was quite impressed with Mr. Youman’s knowledge and insights about malpractice law and procedures. He actually made the case look easy (although it was not)! Even further, Mr. Youman and his support staff ran a very efficient operation. Phone calls and emails were promptly returned. Professionalism and courtesy were ever-present. And, of course, we won the case -- despite a formidable and powerful opponent. Highly recommended.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
