One thing I need to make clear insurance companies are not your friend should you have a work related accident. Their job is to pay as little as possible and disprove your injury. Please read a short synopsis of my injury. Many thanks to Jon Koutcher for handling my workers compensation injury. I was a Emergency Room RN, 18 years at one facility, with a good employee record. I had a needle kicked into my hand, while working in the Emergency Room, by a patient who was Hep C +. I followed up with Work Health as per protocol. Within 6 weeks I was sick , my employer did not notify me of my repeat test results, I had a viral load in the millions. Within 12 weeks I had collapsed at home, and required hospitalization. My employer was not satisfied that I was truly sick. I was referred to a Heptalogist, who wanted to start treatment immediately, due to the fact that I was so sick. I never thought I would need a attorney, I thought my employer and the insurance company would do the right thing. Everything was documented. That was not the case, the insurance company was determined to prove that I did not contract Hep C from the needlestick. Hep C treatment is very expensive. I had spoken with the Heptalogist who wanted to start a 12 month round of treatment. No work. My employer told me if I was not back to work in 12 weeks I would no longer have a job. Jonathon was referred to me by a friend, and I am so grateful I made the phone call. I was terrified, in my mind I needed to get back to work as soon as possible. Jon handled everything, he saw that I received the treatment as soon as possible. Little did I know how much sicker I would become due to the medications. My hair started falling out, my blood count went down, requiring a very expensive medication (12k) to prevent, insurance company refused/delayed approval. Jon made sure I received the medication. Within 6 weeks of treatment I began spitting out mouthfuls of blood, my gums started spontaneously bleeding. My treatment had to stopped early due to all the devastating side effects, which nearly took my life. After treatment was stopped, I finally able to visit the dentist again, I was required to see him before starting treatment, you cannot have dental work while on treatment. My teeth were moving in my mouth. After being sent to a oral surgeon, who examined me and took my history, I found out that the hep c medication, especially the interferon was the culprit for my dental decline. I was devastated beyond belief, the one thing I always did was take care of my teeth. I lost all my upper teeth and 2 lower, requiring a denture. Jon fought for me again, proving the medications were at fault for the rapid decline of my dental health. I will soon be seeing the oral surgeon to have dental implant surgery. I am so relieved and grateful to Jon and his staff. Not only did Jon fight for me, he would call or his administrative assistant Maureen would call, just to check in on me, while I was going thru treatment. That in itself meant more than he will ever know. Jon Koutcher, truly cares about his clients.
