We had the pleasure of working with Nicole Simon in our process of securing a Permanent Resident (Green Card) for my husband, an Italian citizen who had been working successfully in Philadelphia on a work visa for several years. Nicole explained every step of the process in full detail and gave us a very accurate timeline. Having previously used a different attorney for the initial work visa and been frustrated by his inaccessibility and lack of coordination of our matter with his associates, it was refreshing to retain Nicole who gave personal oversight and attention to detail. She expertly prepped us for our INS interview and also gave us moral support that made the day of the interview go smoothly and without stress. Nicole cares about her clients and makes them feel at ease. She was always quick to respond to email questions and phone calls. We would not hesitate to recommend her for the Green Card process, and fully intend to continue working with her on my husband's U.S. Citizenship process. A consummate professional.

My wife and I were referred to Nicole Simon by one of my wife's friends. At our first meeting Nicole explained the process we were about to begin in great detail and reassured us that everything was going to be ok. Nicole also was very clear in explaining to us the fees that we were going to incur and the due dates for each step in the process. It was very comforting to have an attorney like Nicole that knows the process so well, has been so successful with her clients and treats you like close friends rather than another file. In what was a protracted process we were always able to reach out to Nicole and receive immediate feedback on what was happening, what it meant in the process and what to expect next. My wife and I were so excited when Nicole shared with us the exciting news of my wife receiving her Resident Visa status. I do not know how we ever could have gone through all of this without the counsel of such an esteemed attorney like Nicole Simon. Words cannot express enough our gratitude and we could not offer a stronger recommendation to anyone seeking assistance with immigration issues that to recommend the services of Nicole Simon, Esquire.

She explained the requirements very clearly to both of us from day one, and was always ready to answer any questions or address any concerns we had through out the application. She made the process much simpler and the experience more enjoyable than we had anticipated. We highly recommend Nicole for any marriage immigration counsel.

I worked with Nicole Simon for many years securing H-1B visas and processing permanent resident applications for incoming faculty at my place of employment. Nicole was always very knowledgeable about the qualifications needed and the criteria for applications for both. Nicole was not only knowledgeable, but extremely conscientious in following up with me when there were any delays or questions concerning prompt approval of an application. She regularly tracked the status of all applications, kept me informed, contacted me if there was any doubt that we would have the visa by the date needed, and reminded me when renewals were due. She always reminded me as well when it was necessary to begin the application for permanent residence for faculty currently on visas. In addition, Nicole was always available and willing to help me with questions about alternatives if the candidate was not eligible for an H-1B. In every conversation or interaction I had with her, she was unfailingly pleasant, patient, and helpful. I give her my highest recommendation.

Angela took such good care of us. She worked with my wife and me through the adoption of our second child. In that process she also caught and fixed an error in our first child’s adoption made by a previous law firm. She was kind, clear, timely and supportive. She held our hands through the process of setting up our will and making lots of important decisions. We can’t recommend Angela enough! I wish we had found her at the beginning of our adoption journey.

Truly cannot recommend Angela enough — she made the estate planning process as painless as it could possibly be and was able to offer profoundly helpful, real-world answers to all of my questions. No one wants to contemplate their own death and the aftermath — but as Angela advised me, one of most loving things we can do for those we leave behind is to have a plan. I’m very pleased with my experience and feel so much better knowing that I leave my loved ones with the certainty of my wishes. Thanks Angela!

Attorney Youman has the qualities one would expect and hope for from a lawyer. I hired Mr. Youman for a malpractice suit. Mr. Youman’s law firm, Kline & Specter, is a leader in malpractice litigation. This is easy to believe given Mr. Youman’s skill. Mr. Youman stated from the outset what and what not to expect. He made no outrageous promises, yet fought for me every step of the way. Aside from aggressively pursuing justice, I was quite impressed with Mr. Youman’s knowledge and insights about malpractice law and procedures. He actually made the case look easy (although it was not)! Even further, Mr. Youman and his support staff ran a very efficient operation. Phone calls and emails were promptly returned. Professionalism and courtesy were ever-present. And, of course, we won the case -- despite a formidable and powerful opponent. Highly recommended.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
