Seeking legal guidance, I reached out to NiaLena Caravasos. From our very first interaction, I was impressed by her profound grasp of the law, extensive experience, and unwavering confidence that inspired a sense of trust in her expertise. During our initial consultation, NiaLena exhibited not only her remarkable legal acumen but also her profound dedication to ethical practice. She attentively listened to my concerns, articulately explained my available avenues in a manner that I clearly understood were in my best interest. Her honesty and willingness to address all my inquiries demonstrated a level of integrity and concern that is seldom encountered. Moreover, I was fortunate to receive guidance that mirrored the wisdom one would typically expect from a cherished family member or close trusted friend. NiaLena exceeded all expectations in her commitment to helping me comprehend my case and devising a strategy that safeguarded my interests. Now several years later, I can say that my initial impression of her as a person of great character and integrity has been further confirmed. I have also benefited on many levels by advice from someone who is fully dedicated to helping her clients. She is a true professional who is committed to providing her clients with the best possible representation.

I had the pleasure of meeting and working for NiaLena Caravasos from 2008 to 2013. She is one of the best attorneys I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She takes each case personally and moves heaven and earth to achieve a favorable decision. I watched her work tirelessly on each case, giving each one everything she’s got. She is caring, compassionate, genuinely cares for others and in particular, her clients. As I worked alongside her, I was constantly in awe as she poured every bit of her expertise into each one. To NiaLena, each case isn’t just a case – but rather represents the life of an individual who is depending on her, and because she has made it her life’s mission to help humanity, no one understands better than she how pivotal it is to leave no stone unturned in her pursuit of justice – one client at a time! NiaLena is the real deal, above reproach and one whose integrity – her guiding post - stands tall! She has been awarded the title of Super Lawyer for many years and is the only Philadelphia criminal defense attorney whom Super Lawyers has ever put on their Cover of the PA Super Lawyers twice (in 2013 and again in 2023).I have watched many clients thank her repeatedly, shower her with gratefulness, and deemed her a friend as well as an attorney. She is an expert in her field of law and coupled with her love, compassion and consideration for others, this title and her professional accolades are well deserved. In a day and time where many people are only out for themselves, she is a breath of fresh air and continually restores my faith in humanity!

I am a criminal defense attorney who handles cases in state court. I have now known NiaLena since 2009 and have had the opportunity to see her counsel countless clients. Her work ethic, attention to detail, legal acumen, and genuine concern for her clients are unparalleled. She is a lawyer who considers every last detail and gives thought to everything that might be important - and then comes up with brilliant defense strategies. If I had a friend or family member in need of a criminal defense lawyer for a high profile federal case I would not hesitate to recommend NiaLena.

This lawyer is a ripoff. She cares more about catering to the whims of the federal government and FBI than she does about protecting the constitutional rights of her clients. She made me feel like a criminal even though I wasn’t even the one targeted in the matter. Find yourself a lawyer that truly understands and respects the constitution, not one that sides with the FBI who have been wrongly targeting individuals since forming. Edit: in response to her disappointing response below, I can easily prove the $1500 in retainer fees to prove that she did represent me.

Angela took such good care of us. She worked with my wife and me through the adoption of our second child. In that process she also caught and fixed an error in our first child’s adoption made by a previous law firm. She was kind, clear, timely and supportive. She held our hands through the process of setting up our will and making lots of important decisions. We can’t recommend Angela enough! I wish we had found her at the beginning of our adoption journey.

Truly cannot recommend Angela enough — she made the estate planning process as painless as it could possibly be and was able to offer profoundly helpful, real-world answers to all of my questions. No one wants to contemplate their own death and the aftermath — but as Angela advised me, one of most loving things we can do for those we leave behind is to have a plan. I’m very pleased with my experience and feel so much better knowing that I leave my loved ones with the certainty of my wishes. Thanks Angela!

Angela is a wonderful attorney; tough, smart, always on point and a joy to work with. I am so grateful for her dedication and expertise with all of my Estate Planning and personal protection needs. Angela is unique in the field of law because she is so thorough and knowledgeable but also incredibly kind, personable and compassionate. Having my paperwork thoughtfully and professionally executed is such a relief. I don't have to think about them anymore and I can go enjoy my life. Having an attorney to protect my well being has allowed me to regain so much of my health and my life. A huge bow of gratitude to Angela Giampolo and Giampolo Law.

He is very well respeected in the Title Insurance industry and he is an excellent trial lawyer . I have had the pleasure to be in the Court Room with Mr. Hayes and found him to be very well prepared and in total command of the client's case .

Attorney Youman has the qualities one would expect and hope for from a lawyer. I hired Mr. Youman for a malpractice suit. Mr. Youman’s law firm, Kline & Specter, is a leader in malpractice litigation. This is easy to believe given Mr. Youman’s skill. Mr. Youman stated from the outset what and what not to expect. He made no outrageous promises, yet fought for me every step of the way. Aside from aggressively pursuing justice, I was quite impressed with Mr. Youman’s knowledge and insights about malpractice law and procedures. He actually made the case look easy (although it was not)! Even further, Mr. Youman and his support staff ran a very efficient operation. Phone calls and emails were promptly returned. Professionalism and courtesy were ever-present. And, of course, we won the case -- despite a formidable and powerful opponent. Highly recommended.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
