I first want to start by saying that if I could give this firm 6 stars I would lol there’s lots of mixed reviews but I can honestly say that my experience was superb & the staff was exceptional. They kept in communication with me, they sent me paperwork, always followed up with me. Always left me a voicemail If they couldn’t reach me -they were always very respectful. Very pleasant. I never dealt with any attitudes or anybody that seemed like they didn’t really wanna hear what I was saying. I had reached out to a few attorneys and they didn’t wanna take my case because it was getting kind of close to the court date, but I was referred to this firm and they took it and they were able to get everything done in time and I was able to get my claim approved With their help at my hearing. The attorney contacted me days before the hearing to prep as well a few minutes Before the hearing for another recap and refresh, so I was definitely prepared. I would definitely recommend them 100%

I would like to start out by saying that regardless of any negative reviews that I’ve read on here, understand what goes into filing and getting approved for disability before filing or making negative remarks to those who are helping you with what is a taunting task. Laziness is not grounds for Disability and laziness is the last thing you’ll receive from this Law Office. I don’t think people realize how much paperwork between filing medical records and appeals is truly needed. I know my case alone had Records that needed to be received from several different medical institutions, two of which were out of state. And I will admit that you aren’t always in contact with the attorney who is handling your case, but I have never been involved with a law practice with not one but several paralegals that are more than what anybody would be considered above average. No offense to Attorney Steppacher but I have to give 90% credit to his office of paralegals which in return compliments him as an attorney who doesn’t put his reputation into the average paralegal. My opinion is that he has a high standard for his team because his clients receive a high standard of legal representation. And before you file understand that you’re dealing with a government agency (SSI) & they set the dates for any claims, no one else. The only thing you can do to make sure it gets done as quickly as possible, is to be present & available to provide the team that you hired any assistance with records that they may need. Do what they ask of you & understand that just because you’re filing for disability doesn’t mean that you’re not capable of putting some effort into YOUR claim. Nothing bothers me more than to read negative comments about good people because of a few who think that this office is getting rich off of your claim & decides that they’re entitled to do nothing. I’m a firm believer that if you truly are in need then you are truly humbled & are grateful for any assistance that you receive. I will end with this & please don’t let this reflect any negativity to anyone else employed by Attorney Steppacher because as I said, the whole office is ready at any time to help in any way but I do want to give a specific thank you & appreciation to Jess. You honestly deserve a lot of credit with my case as it was more complex than the usual claim & if it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have been able to be as patient or calm as long as it did take but you always made yourself available & ALWAYS made sure that my questions were answered & understood clearly no matter how long it took. You have no idea how much I really do appreciate all of your time & taking the time to have a conversation as if I was talking to someone I’ve known for years. Thank you & if I had any leverage, I would be pressuring someone to give you a raise LOL!!!

Female attorney does not respond to emails and will avoid phone calls when you have questions/comments. Will go over everything last minute giving you no chance to really prepare yourself or your case. As a person with NO law experence, I had no idea of things that may have helped my case until after we spoke. Sent emails regarding said things, but never a reply. As someone with very high anxiety, a lack of reply definitely did not help any. Totally unprofessional and a lack of care for her clients. Do not recommend.

I am doing a review for my sister-in-law Leila Malone. Kelly Lenahan was hired by Leila because of a car accident she was involved in. I must say Ms Lenahan proved to be a blessing to her. She is a very knowledgeable professional. She took swift and aggressive steps to get this case settled for Leila. I would recommend her to anyone in this kind of situation.

My 17 year old daughter got a rather large burn on her head from getting her hair highlighted at a local salon. Kelly was very specific on what we needed to do and she didnt do anything without consulting us first. I also loved that she talked to us like a friend and not like someone who knew way more than we did! I would highly recommend Kelly to represent you!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Scranton, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
