My son was falsely accused of assault and Andy Shubin was recommended by the fraternity. He defended my son with the passion that he would a close friend. He kept us informed about every aspect of the case and explained our options. We chose not to plead to fabricated charges and he won a full acquittal with his questioning and passionate closing. He saved my son’s future and we will always be grateful! BTW...his office staff is terrific also!

Don’t think twice about putting your faith and trust in Attorney Andrew Shubin! Finding myself the target of manufactured charges of harassment and simple assault, I was both terrified and devastated at how quickly my life was coming unraveled. The consequences of someone filing false charges, fabrication of elaborate evidence and needing to defend myself against accusers with perceived community and professional clout, became overwhelming. Mr. Shubin came highly recommended through a friend. Throughout my initial consultation; my concerns, questions and anxiety were instantly put to rest. Genuine care, expert resources ( from private detective to poly graph testing ) and incredible proficiency in every aspect; hands down the BEST defense lawyer there is! Do not mistake his kindness and compassion. I personally witnessed his humble demeanor transform into a relentless, fierce ally for truth and justice in the courtroom. Mr. Shubin exposed my accusers, their “ evidence” & witnesses, putting them on public display as absolute perjury. Amazing to witness. Amazing to win. Amazing to reclaim my life back. Priceless!

Marie is an excellent attorney who not only listens in the highest regard to her client but she is also an attorney who understands the needs of her client and fulfills them to the very best of her ability; her abilities as an attorney are flawless and relentless she is in fighting on your behalf for what is fair and what is right for the client's best interest. She will not put you on a shelf and get to you when the time is right for her because she understands the need for a quick but yet firm and just outcome. Marie also does not hesitate to call you personally to give to give to you any kind of advice or information about your case, you are not left out in the cold wondering what is going on or what is happening; it's like being face to face with your attorney at all times and you know in your heart that she is always there for you. I had already appointed two attorneys to my long enduring divorce case and it was very depressing listening to excuse after excuse for not moving forward, but when I finally reached out to Attorney Sullivan for help everything rapidly came to order and my case and life were finally moving forward. I'm very thankful that you were there for me Marie; my best to you and your family :) God bless

Marie Sullivan is lawyer of incredible professionalism and effectiveness who does her utmost to defend the interests of her clients. Anyone who has experienced a contentious custody or other legal dispute knows how stressful the situation is, and how ill at ease they feel with the entire process. As my own experience attests, Marie gave me comfort and confidence in the ultimate outcome in my case. She did this by exhibiting a deep grasp of the legal issues at hand, confidence and poise in the courtroom, and sensitivity to my own feelings regarding my case. The custody dispute I was in was extremely contentious and there was a great deal of uncertainty regarding whether I could achieve the goals I had intended regarding how the relationship with my children would be structured. Marie never let my confidence in my goals being achieved waver. She kept me abreast of the legal issues at hand, was a skilled negotiator with my ex-wife and her lawyer. She was meticulously prepared, confident, and effective beyond my wildest expectations in the courtroom. I highly recommend the services of Marie Sullivan in any case revolving around family law or issues regarding custody. She is exactly what you are looking for when life circumstances require the services of a lawyer.

Had gotten a DUI at the end of junior year. Was having many concerns because I had gotten an internship across the country in a state were I needed to drive to work every day. He was able to push my court dates back until senior year, so I would be able to have my license for my first internship. This gave me peace of mind! And my internship never found out about my DUI. Come senior year, he was able to get me ARD and my license was only suspended in PA for less then 6 months when it was supposed to be more. Considering all the substances (CLASS I included) in my body at the time arrested, this was great news. Ronald Saupe then took care of my expungement process. I graduated from college and considering I travel for work a lot, Ronald Saupe has been very patient with me and how long I take to respond sometimes. He said he mailed me my expungement papers (at my mother’s address) but they were returned to him. I did see that email the same day and gave him a new address (and offered if he can scan them and email them to me), and I still never received them. I will contact him today again via email and ask for them again. This is the last important thing I need so I can forget about this incident. This was all done for a reasonable price too!

Ron helped me with a very very complex business deal that had many moving parts. I was extremely impressed with his promptness, professionalism, and knowledge. He made himself available outside of business hours and on weekends for my unique situation. He was vested in protecting my interest and thoroughly explained everything to me, whether it was what I wanted to hear or not. His rate was affordable and very reasonable for his services. Ultimately he helped me execute a great business agreement and his services are world class. I highly recommend Ron's services.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of State College, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
