Beth was good in the courtroom in front of the judge but she completely botched the custody agreement . I requested that I receive 50/50 custody time and after the terms were complete Beth entered me into a 36 % custody agreement . She entered into terms which I was specifically opposed to . Better off hiring another attorney . Opposing party's attorney was more competent and detailed . I had to hire another attorney to file for a modification hearing just to get what I originally requested from Beth

McGovern has been my lawyer for 15 years now, and has always gotten me results beyond what I requested. I have never been disappointed in the 4+ times I had to hire her. She is very knowledgeable in the field and is very in touch with many of the court staff. Very responsive and on top of her game at all times. I would recommend her to any mom out there needing a great lawyer.

On April 1st, 2015, I wish this was a joke, I was involved in an accident where my hand got crushed and required surgery. Two weeks later a second surgery was required to amputate half of my right index finger. Through a family friend I was introduced to John Cordisco to review the facts of my particular situation. From day one, John was up front and honest with me about my case and that my expectations (due to my own terrible personal choices) should not be high. Nonetheless he took my case. Fast forward 4.5 years later my case was settled, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. John and his legal aid Meryl, were there for me when ever I had any questions or concerns. I highly recommend using John and Meryl and will gladly send anyone that needs a personal injury lawyer their way.

On Octoer18,2018, I suffered an accident that almost claimed my life. I am still recovering from multiple injuries which include treatment for my leg which was stripped of its skin as I was dragged along the streets after being hit. My cousin referred John Cordisco as I have never sued anyone before this accident. John came to the hospital several times and I knew from the first meeting that this lawyer would do all in his power to get the justice I deserved. John and his paralegal Meryl Shoneman worked tirelessly to make sure that my settlement would be large ,enJoough making it worth waiting an entire year to settle. Of course the insurance company representing those responsible for payment tried to get John to settle for less, but they soon found out they were up against a lawyer that was not about to bend their way. Besides the fact that John is the best personal injury lawyer to have fight your case, he really cares and that means a lot to a client. John and Meryl always treated me with compassion and respect, many times Meryl would call me just to ask if I needed anything, she knew I lived alone. I had nurses and a cousin who does everything for me,, but Meryl would check in on me just the same. If you want a lawyer who is going to fight tirelessly for justice, John Cordisco is the .lawyer you want by your side, for a paralegal who not only is excellent in how she does her job and also will treat clients with respect and compassion, Meryl Shoneman is a woman you also want on your team because a client deals a lot with a lawyer's paralegal during the time spent on their case. I am so glad I had John Cordisco for my lawyer,. he got me a huge settlement. Theresa

My name is Tom and i’m a Business Rep for the Sheet Metal Workers Local 19. I hired John for the wrongful death lawsuit of my 15 yo daughter. They handled this case with the utmost sensitivity, genuine sincerity, and treated more as friend more than as a client. Which was extremely appreciated bearing the tragic situation. I highly recommend him and his team. Thanks again!

Alex was so helpful during our lawsuit. We hired Alex because a client of ours did not pay their bill after multiple attempts of asking for payment. With Alex's professional attitude and thorough help, we eventually received payment from the client. We would highly recommend him to anyone.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Trevose, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
