Better off going to law school and representing yourself. Nothing but broken promises and unanswered questions. Not sure how the other associates are but avoid Brittany. Place is a joke.

First, I spoke with Attorney Clark A. Mitchell Sr. concerning my case. He was extremely knowledgeable but could not take my case because it was not his specialty. He referred me to Attorney Clark A. Mitchell Jr. He could not take my case as well for the same reason. Both attorneys were professional and caring when I spoke with him. Not only did he actively listen to my case, but they also gave me suggestions and advice in general. When they explained it was not their area of law and could not represent me, they referred me to other lawyers. They were extremely patient.

I have had the opportunity to retain many lawyers over the past several decades on various issues. Clark Mitchell was by far the most professional and detailed attorney I have retained. I highly recommend him and I will continue to do so.

Since I didn't currently have an attorney, I initially sought out Clark Mitchell based on his reputation as one of my area's preeminent lawyers. I was serving as the executor of both my aunt's and mother's estates. With absolutely no experience or real knowledge of the process or my role in it, I was very worried about retaining an attorney that would be efficient, willing to guide me, and easy to work with. I could not have been more pleased with Mr. Mitchell and his staff. From the outset, Attorney Mitchell and his staff guided me through this foreign process, allowing and encouraging me to ask what I'm sure were trivial and inconsequential questions. They were patient knowledgeable, efficient, and affordable. Mr. Mitchell took what could have been an overwhelming and unpleasant experience and made it both painless and seamless. I have since used Attorney Mitchell for all my other legal matters with similar results. I highly recommend Clark Mitchell and Associates for anyone looking for an experienced lawyer with a caring touch.

We worked closely with Phil over a two-year period and got to know his work and character very well. He is extremely experienced and has a great deal of credibility in the legal community, which are real assets to his clients. He is also a genuine and caring advocate, who takes his clients’ situations to heart, going ‘above and beyond’ to do the right thing for them. Phil returned phone calls promptly and kept in close touch with us; we always knew what the next step was and when we would hear from him again. His honesty and forthrightness come through in every conversation. We trusted Phil with a sensitive situation and we would not hesitate to do so again. He would be our first call. He has excellent experience, interpersonal skills, and integrity.

I have had broad experience in both my professional and personal life meeting, dealing with, employing and challenging many attorneys. Phil Melograne is a consummate professional in every sense of the word. He is a student and scholar of the law. His presence and command in the courtroom is first class. It is easy to notice the respect that he generates from colleagues and judges alike. He has a stellar track record and would have my immediate vote for any and all bench opportunities. Phil embodies my definition of a proud American. At all times he is responsive, factual, truthful and guides his clients ( of which I am one) with the expertise and wisdom of years of experience. Simply put - Phil Melograne stands out in front and projects humility and total class. I am proud to know him and would call upon his advice without reservation!

I had been hurt in an accident. The court case was long exhausting and depressing when my life was falling apart. The attorney who won the case shifted careers and he recommended Attorney John T. Hofrichter for the continuing issues with SWIF. Those issues never seem to stop. My orthopedic doctor died during an appeal trial from SWIF. It threw my case out of the timeline for the next hearing. Attorney Hofrichter handled the court while I searched for a new doctor which was hard due to the nature of my accident and injuries. The other insurance companies involved had sent me to multiple ortho surgeons before they would pay out making these doctors have a conflict of interest issue. It was a nightmare. My injury was bad, even years later I was struggling through therapy and X-rays. SWIF makes everything worse, I felt like I was crying all the time and depression was and still is a battle for me. But Attorney Hofrichter told me this would continue to happen as long as I was on SWIF's compensation. He was right. He has had to defend me at least 4x in a court trial since I won my case. I will not settle with SWIF for the pittance they have repeatedly offered. I must constantly fill out paperwork and see an IME, always with the knowledge I will be taken back to court. My injury is not a vague "I hurt" injury. It was severe, it continues to worsen as I get older. My medical records are graphic and extensive. If SWIF had taken my first response for settlement they wouldn't still be paying me, 26 years later, and they'd have saved money. Attorney Hofrichter has told them this very same thing. He has defended me so fiercely that the previous case worker, who told me in a letter to call him, hung up the phone on me and said a few other choice words about me and my attorney. I would recommend Attorney Hofrichter to anyone facing a workers' comp case with SWIF. He's well versed in what you need to know and do. He's trustworthy, honest, hardworking, and willing to be blunt about your chances in court. Plus, his compensation isn't excessive. It was significantly lower than other attorneys I contacted and there were many of them.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Washington, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
