The lawyer provides excellent client service and communication

Cons
1
The lawyer's communication could be improved in some cases
“Didn't do to bad I guess on reducing my charges but, bad communication and ultimately had me plea guilty to something without a full understanding of the consequences. Wouldn't recommend”
2
The lawyer's handling of client deposits and billing practices was unsatisfactory in one case
“Paid the deposit to this firm and was promised that the incident would be handled during my consult. Instead what happened was that I was informed of an aggressive collection practice, which Alex was going to keep the deposit I've already paid and I was going to be dropped as a client. I felt completely taken advantage of during this interaction.”

I have used Alexander Silow on multiple occasions and each time I receive the best possible outcome. Alex is one of the most knowledgeable and respected lawyers I have ever met. His commitment to his clients is unmatched and presence in the courtroom is second to none. Would absolutely recommend and have on multiple occasions to any person seeking representation.

When I initially consulted Alex Silow to explain the details of my case, he seemed like a good fit as we had a similar take on both the situation and the plan of action. Unfortunately, our relationship soured quickly. I found him to be arrogant, rude, and self-serving. I learned to despise him even more than the lying cops and the low-life DA who cared nothing of my innocence, but only for the chance to bolster his record at my expense. They can all rot in hell and I hope they do. Silow interrupted me, and yelled at me repeatedly in the course of phone calls that should have been a calm back and forth discourse. There was no reason for such abhorrent behavior. I have never met anyone in any profession that talks to their clients like that. This is unacceptable in any setting. And he refused to believe me even though every word I said is true, which only complicated the case. Furthermore, it is my belief that he purposely failed to get the case dismissed in a pre-trial hearing, so that I would have to pay him another $2,500 to go to trial. If his pre-trial failure was not on purpose, then his defense was grossly incompetent. I was charged with theft. Fortunately, there was surveillance video of the entire incident, in which I picked a single piece of scrap wood out of a trash pile and put it back exactly where I found it in under 60 seconds. In order for that to be theft, by definition, there has to be "economic loss". So, after watching the video, the judge says "what's the difference between stealing a car and returning it the next day and stealing this piece of wood and returning it? Any decent attorney would have answered that taking a piece of wood from a demolished deck out of a scrap pile and putting it back within 60 seconds does not constitute "economic loss". Silow failed to do so. The judge held the charge over for trial and Silow put another $2,500 in his pocket, after which the DA, knowing he did not stand a chance at trail, promtly dropped the charges. This experience was a real eye opener about just how corrupt the criminal justice system is. Cops, judges and DAs need criminals (real or fabricated) to justify their cushy salaries from the county. And the defense lawyers are all too happy to extract every dollar they can from the defendant. It's a scam, and they're all in on it. Silow puts on a good act as if he cares, but he's about the $$$, not the client. Disclaimer. The above statements of opinion are just that, my opinion, not facts or accusations. Note: I did not just walk up radomly to a woodpile. I had worked on this property many times for the former owner, who is a building contractor, and believed that this wood belonged to him

Almost forgot about this experience. Paid the deposit to this firm and was promised that the incident would be handled during my consult. Instead what happened was that I was informed of an aggressive collection practice, which Alex was going to keep the deposit I've already paid and I was going to be dropped as a client. I felt completely taken advantage of during this interaction. Thank God I had the funds available to complete the payment to the firm. I was in a very bad spot at the time and this is the last thing I ever expected from my attorney. No one should be treated like this. Very happy to be able to share about this experience today.

I have known James Doyle for over six years now, and the more I got to know him, the more I realized how smart he is. He has helped me with countless legal advice ranging from disputes with former landlords, to under ages, to criminal mischief charges. with the rental agreement, my friends and I rented a house, and after our lease was up, the landlord wanted us to pay thousands in retribution to furniture and other mis. objects that were already broken when we got there. He advised us to sign an agreement outside of the courtroom to prevent a lawsuit of over $2,700 plus courtroom fees. Our backs were against a wall, we could justify somethings and perhaps get off on them, but the rest we could not prove. They were not our fault but since we did not take any pictures before entering the place, there was no proof it was not us. The agreement stated after we paid, the landlord could not come back and sue us for more, which saved us potentially thousands. With the underage, a friend of mine climbed a 20 foot Temple University flag pole, stole their flag and was arrested two blocks later. He was charged with criminal mischief and an underage. This could potentially mean a suspension of driving license, hundreds in fines, and a plentiful amount of hours for community service. When they went to court, James met with the DA, created a profile for his client stating how the is an upstanding Villanova student, first offense and is willing to pay retribution for the flag. He also said a few other things, and eventually all the charges were dropped. James is a great lawyer with plenty of experience and knowledge for such a young good-looking lawyer. He is not a typical lawyer, he has a wide range of knowledge of the law and could help with almost any kind of law.

James Doyle recently helped us with the sale of our home. James was extremely professional, and thorough. He explained every step to my husband and I so we were completely informed and comfortable with the process. Since James was able to help us execute this contract and help us with the paperwork and setting up the settlement date and meeting, we were able to sell our home without the cost and hassle of a realtor. James was quick in expediting the sale and paperwork so we were able to complete the process in just about 30 days. Given that this was our first time selling a property without the use of a realtor, we had many questions which James was quick to answer and made us feel extremely comfortable. The sale went smoothly and all parties were happy (buyers did not have a realtor either so they relied on James' assistance as well). I will recommend James to any and all of my friends and family who are in need of an attorney in the future and we will be using James' services again in the future.

Mr Doyle is a very hard working and very persistent, young attorney. He shows all of the qualities you would want in your defense lawyer. As a lawyer just starting out, he is miles ahead of other lawyers with his experience and he is very hungry, all of which point directly towards the notion that each and every time he will work tirelessly and diligently to fight for you and your respective dilemma. Highly recommend. Thank you for your hard work, Jamie.

Laurie was recommended to me by someone who holds her in high regards, and she lived up to her reputation. This was my first experience with hiring a lawyer, and I was not sure what to expect. From the first phone call, Laurie treated me like someone she already knew, and not just another client. She had a real conversation with me, and got to know the details of my case and what I was dealing with on a personal level. Laurie knows how to treat clients like family, while still maintaining a high level of professionalism. She is honest and plays fair, which really shines through when up against slimy opponents with questionable and unethical tactics. Laurie worked hard and dedicated herself to winning my case, and held my hand through every surprise obstacle that arose. My faith in her abilities never wavered, and she helped me come out on top. If you want to win your case honestly, while having a friend at your side, Laurie is the perfect attorney for you!

Laurie truly understands the details of my case. All correspondence sent and words spoken on my behalf have have been powerful and on point. Laurie represented me when I petitioned to have my existing custody order modified. She provided cases studies to support my position and left no stone unturned. All of the changes I requested were granted. I feel like we worked together as a team. I would definitely recommend her to anyone in need of lawyer.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of West Chester, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
