My husband and I were rear-ended by one of two motorists racing each other, both of whom had rented late model "muscle cars." We (my husband and I) were essentially at a standstill, preparing to make a legal right turn when we were hit from behind by one of the motorists travelling at a very high speed along the shoulder of a busy road outside of Philadelphia. Our car was catapulted well beyond the intersection and into an embankment. Given the impact we were fortunate to have sustained relatively minor physical injuries. However, our hospital bills were significant, our car was "totaled," and my husband's resulting PTSD lingered for years. After obtaining no satisfaction from our initially-hired attorney we turned to Maria Janoski. Maria went above and beyond to obtain settlements for us - exceeding our expectations. She is knowledgeable, thorough, driven, respectful, and personable. Throughout our ordeal Maria patiently explained the law and the process to us, keeping us informed along the way. My husband and I liken Maria to "a wolf in sheep's clothing;" her demeanor is pleasant yet she is a highly competent injury attorney. We are truly grateful to have had Maria in our corner.

My wife and I hired Maria to represent my wife in a motor vehicle accident. We wanted to be compensated a fair amount for pain and suffering. It was very important to us that this case handled professionally without dragging out for years. Maria was able to get us a fair settlement, the right way.

Maria was recommended to me by my attorney to represent me in a legal malpractice suit against my former legal firm that misrepresented my case in a business matter. I found her extremely professional, capable, personable and honest with me and the matter was settled out of court to my satisfaction.

I’ve had a hard time coming up with the words for this much rewarded review for Maria. Without sounding generic, I have found it difficult to express my sincere gratefulness for everything she has done for me, my growing family, and my own self-worth during some of my lowest of lows in my life. This was simply one of the hardest situations I have had to go through. Once our case was closed, the rollercoaster of emotions, thoughts and "what was to come next", took a while to process in the best way possible. There were times during our lawsuit process that I wanted to curl up in a ball and never see the light of day from an emotional and physical standpoint. She carried on a fight that I felt I couldn't at times when all I could do was focus on healing after multiple surgeries and therapies due to my injury. Watching her through our myriad of meetings, depositions and zoom calls; she was nothing short of amazing. She is SMART, outgoing, witty, and extremely keen to her practice of law. I would not want to be on the other side against her, EVER. I would love to just watch her in court one day. I never once doubted her ability to represent us in our case as we followed her during our four-year process; through two prior practices before she went out on her own. She was and is worth it all! Maria walked us through every step; we were never caught off guard. She kept calm for us all when I think many would have started to fray. She was great at setting our expectations, reassured us during uneasy times; she listened when I needed to call her with a health update or a new surgery date. I would cry, she would listen and then help me regroup. I like knowing I can call her a friend to this day. Without any hesitation whatsoever, I highly recommend her to anyone who is needing a personal injury lawyer as she is simply THE BEST.

I would highly recommend Maria Janoski for any of your legal needs. From the first time I spoke with Maria, I knew that I was in extremely capable hands. Not only is she knowledgeable, caring, honest, and dedicated to a fault, but she also took the time to listen, offer suggestions and answer all of my questions while walking me through each step of the process. Maria gave 110% to my case to achieve the best possible outcome. Thank you Maria!!

Mike is not only extremely professional and knowledgeable in his field, he is also very personable and caring. He came recommended to me from a mutual friend and treated me with utmost respect from the first phone call until well after the court date. As someone who had never been in legal trouble before I greatly appreciated how much he prioritized my comfortability and kept me aware of all necessary information and options regarding the case. He’s a standup person and a great lawyer. Highly highly recommend.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of West Chester, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
