A number of years ago I was accused of a crime. I was lost and didn’t know where to start looking for help. I ended up coming across Emkey Law Firm. I called at 2 in the morning and Dan answered the phone himself. He scheduled a meeting with me for that very morning. While it may not seem like much, that call sticks with me to this day. The professionalism and work ethic Dan displayed is admirable. I was treated like a person, not a paycheck. Both Mr. Emkey and his assistant helped me navigate through a dark time in my life. I called the office more times than I could count just asking questions. They never made me feel like I was annoying or a bother. If anyone needs legal assistance I would 100% recommend Emkey Law. After that day in court Dan gave me advice. I took it, and shortly thereafter I got out of that situation. Life couldn’t be better. Thank you for helping me keep my life going in the right trajectory.

I am extremely grateful to Dan Emkey for his outstanding legal services. From start to finish, Dan was professional, supportive, and committed to my case. Thanks to his expertise and dedication, I avoided any jail time. Dan charged a flat fee and stuck to it, which was a huge relief during such a stressful period. He was with me every step of the way, providing clear guidance and constant support. I highly recommend Dan Emkey to anyone in need of a reliable and effective lawyer. Thank you, Dan, for everything!

Mr. Emkey and Emily were very professional and responsive. I never even had to leave a message, got put right through to the man himself. I had the absolute best outcome that I didn't even see coming. As far as presence in court, Mr. Emkey dresses well and presents and commands respect. Sincerely appreciate you guys. If I am ever in need again I will call you first!

This was my first time needing a lawyer, and I was facing multiple charges from various courts, including a misdemeanor of the first degree. I was anxious and felt like my life was falling apart over something that seemed minor and foolish. I reached out to several law firms, but none made me feel as comfortable as the Banks Law Firm did. Other firms made me feel foolish for sharing my situation, but Banks Law Firm simply listened and assured me they could handle it. Attorney Banks was excellent at explaining everything and ensuring I understood the process. Charmaine was also very helpful, answering any questions I had for Attorney Banks.

I interviewed many criminal attorneys prior to hiring the Banks law group. There is a sense of profound knowledge to the field and genuine compassion. I deeply worried about my case because I'm a health care professional and the two criminal case will prompt me to lose my health care professional license that I studied and worked for many years.... On top of the maximum years of imprisonment if ever. Well, we won the case. I highly endorse the Banks law group, the team and staff are exceptional. With their unsurpassed expertise, you'll have a better future. Attorney Matthew Banks had given me another life.

I spoke to Mr. Hoffman in a consultation, unprepared and unpaid and yet it was utterly simple to get through to him twice and speak in details and care that even my current paid lawyer and other lawyers (with paid consultation) never showed! He showed extensive experience, genuinely caring attitude and even when he couldn't take my case for reasons pertaining to his current work and a possible conflict he gave me a very candid advise and a potential road map to follow! Where on earth do you find something like that? Most lawyers drain you emotionally and financially before turning you from a human into a case in their files and a number in their bank accounts, I understand it's a business and living to these lawyers so I never judge them on that but I would at least expect honesty to what they or their experience can do for me and the very minimal of care for myself and my family, nothing more (God forbid I ask for a bulldog in the courtroom that's like finding a unicorn!) Mr. Hoffman doesn't advertise or run flashy marketing campaigns like other lawyers do so I was only able to find him throw a word of mouth, and how I wished I could retain him! He is a gem.

Had Chris still been with Rowe Law offices, I know we would have won my case and custody of my children. Not only did Rowe not inform me that Chris had left the practice, they waited until last minute to let me know and to get someone new caught up to speed. In the one pre trial Chris had assisted me with, we got to keep the house in the district where my kids go to school. So that was already a win in our favor. Once he left, it all fell apart. My new lawyer who represented me didn't spend 10 minutes defending me against my ex's accusations and spent 0 minutes attacking her and bringing anything to light. Rowe Law offices charges us about 15k and didn't do anything. I know if we had Chris, the way he was the first time I met him, he wouldn't have stood for how this case went down. If I could find him and afford to go back, Chris is the guy I would go with. Instead, I have 15k in debt and basically kids will have to relocate out of state after this school year and we will share 50/50 custody and my son's grandmother with whom his mom lives with was just arrested for biting my son, 2nd degree assault. Sounds like it be a cu and dry case but without Chris, I don't stand a shot. Really missed you Chris

My family chose this firm for estate planning and we had such a great experience. They presented all options clearly and then made recommendations tailored to our family's needs. All questions were answered thoroughly. Highly recommended!

  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
