For over 20 years, I have been advocating for elder care and supporting families in planning for their loved one's needs. It’s hard to navigate placement and care options. Families need guidance for power of attorney, wills, guardianship and life care planning and just protecting assets. Bucks County Elder Law is my go to recommendation for all of the life care planning and counseling they may needs. I admire that they also have social workers who are skilled in talking with families who are struggling. Cheers to Henry Carpenter and his team. I have worked well with Nicole and Whitney who truly help people in crisis. This whole team is skilled and trustworthy.

We recently had a consultation with Henry A. Carpenter II at Bucks County Elder Law, and we couldn’t be more impressed. He was extremely knowledgeable and thorough in explaining our options, addressing all of our concerns in a clear and comprehensive manner. His expertise in setting up a trust and other options was evident, and we left feeling confident in the direction we should take. Highly recommend this law firm for anyone seeking professional and compassionate legal advice.

Dan from the first call listened to me was very compassionate and understanding of my feelings and while being sympathetic, he assured me that he understood at the same time cautioned me to not let my guard down and explained everything that was going to happen starting from the support hearing whichis why I reached out being I didn’t know this divorce was coming , he assured me he would guide me through it and what was coming after. He nailed exactly what he cautioned me about with my guard being down , even texting me as we were on the support call! I felt like he had my best interests but I was way off he went above and beyond, never one time questioned my word on things , was prompt in responding let me vent when ex was falsely accusing me of things and actually thanked me when I sent him things to prove her lies ! He and his assistant Karen worked phenomenal together with me , throughout the entire process were caring told me he wasn’t going to let ex or her attorneys rake me and he kept that word. He started as my attorney and I know consider him a friend, we chatted about other things we had in common, he’s just a down to earth human being who actually cares about his clients! He in no way held any punches going back to exes attorney and calling it how it was! It was like seeing a 100% German Shepherd vs a Poodle when he got to the point with other side ! He promised me that he would prove what we needed to so she choked on her lies and the other side the night before divorce conceded on all three topics Dan proved we had proof of her false claims and I walked away the winner ! When you need a compassionate, caring , prompt , well organized, beyond knowledgeable attorney who has not just the bark but the bite to go with it hire Dan he’s got your back! He does what he says he’s going to do and really talks to you in way you understand what is happening! I will highly recommend him to friends and family, ! Thank you Dan for everything! You and Karen and the rest of the firm when you had to get me coverage due to scheduling were way way well caught up when they represented me because of you !!

I’ve used Daniel for both business and personal matters and have been very impressed and satisfied in both areas. I am most recently grateful for Daniel’s guidance in writing my postnuptial agreement. He took the time to ensure I fully understood the process, always prioritizing my protection and best interests while also making my spouse feel at ease during a tumultuous, high-tension period of time. His professionalism, expertise, and supportive approach made that stressful situation much easier. I always felt as though I had his undivided attention and his response times were prompt. I highly recommend Daniel to anyone in need of knowledgeable and compassionate legal counsel.

Dan M. was my attorney for approximately 1.5 years. I had consultations with 3 other lawyers prior to meeting Dan. Once I sat down with Dan for a consultation, I knew he was the right fit based on his demeanor, transparency, and ability to clearly articulate an effective step-by-step strategy to achieve my goals in Family court. The attorney-client relationship was outstanding - Dan guided me every step of the way with clear action items, provided exceptional advice on what to do and what not to do, helped me focus on areas within the case that were within my control, he speaks in language that is easy to understand, has a positive attitude, and made himself available to speak whenever I had a question/needed help. His presence carries well in the courtroom, while no one wants to get into litigation, if you have to, you want someone that specializes in Family court litigation. This firm did not continue to endlessly bill for work, they are transparent and mindful of their client's spending. Dan also leveraged his peers in the office for their thoughts on specific matters that they specialize in, highlighting the fact that the Zlock and Grisillo firm is a tight network of expert attorneys that collectively make you feel at ease (as much as possible) going through stressful Family court situations. I would encourage anyone that needs a Family Law attorney to speak with Dan.

My firm, and my previous firm, have been clients of Mr. Kane for years. I work in high-end construction in New York, and it can be a minefield of red tape, and questionable contracts. Mr. Kane has always done a fantastic job of being both professional, while giving me a healthy dose of "hand holding" through stressful situations where I required his expertise to close extremely specific contracts. He is knowledgeable, kind, and always available. I highly recommend his firm.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Yardley, Pennsylvania?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
