The guy pictured is Jerry Sweeney who is by no means a good attorney. I hired these guys for a divorce and after about 40k I fired them. I had a new attorney look through Keough’s files and it was a disgrace. Save your money and do not hire.

For the price of the retainer you would think they would return calls. I hired them for a civil action in Mass. The legal paperwork is sloppy and full of grammatical errors. Mr. Keough is one of the most low energy attorneys I’ve ever seen and couldn’t have seemed for disinterested. I found myself doing work that they should have been doing.

The lawyer pictured here is Jerry Sweeney, not Sean Keough. They took a $4000, deposit from me with a sales pitch by Jerry. Little did I know my case would be handed off to Sean, who's first move was to call me and say they were gonna need more money down. When I went to the office to give another $1300, he saw me from down the hall and basically rand and hid in an office. So for $5300 I got barely any correspondence, anxiety and on my day in court disinterested representation. If its a family court matter, seek a lawyer elsewhere. After the fact, Sweeney tells me he talked to the opposing side's lawyer, who lied up down unopposed, and told me I should talk to him. Thought that's what I hired a lawyer for?

I can’t thank her enough .Thank you for helping me move on with my life. I was totally oblivious to the divorce process when I met attorney Patterson. She kindly guided me through the process, always keeping me in the loop and assuring I was well prepapred every step of the way.

I was served a summons for a hearing with very short notice. My ex was making an unfounded and misguided attempt to reduce the parenting time I have with our child. I hired Christine, and from the beginning she was comforting to me and a strong advocate for my child's rights, and my rights as a father. This sort of situation is extremely stressful and anxiety inducing. She let me know what I needed to do to look my best. She negotiated strongly and fairly with the other attorney. She gave me the confidence to remain calm and collected throughout three hearings. The result was that I not only didn't lose any parenting time, but we achieved a true 50/50 shared placement agreement, which is the most fair for everyone involved. Christine is knowledgeable, confident, and knows what is fair. I would work with her again in an instant if the need arises.

My wife and I reached out to Christine to help with the adoption of my two boys. She guided us through the process and checked in with us regularly. Whenever we hit some unexpected bumps on the road (and we hit quite a few), Christine was always there to offer advice and assistance where possible. She was invested in us the entire time and always responded in a timely manner.

I needed a divorce lawyer and Clovis Gregor was recommended by a close friend of mine who had been recently divorced. He was available when I needed him to be. His office is conveniently located right off the highway. His costs were reasonable though at the time I did not have too much experience with a divorce lawyer. I was told by many close people to me that it was a reasonable cost. I felt very protected by his services. I was entering into new territory and needed to feel that I was being protected. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. His office was very pleasant and helped me remain calm and comfortable during what for me was a very uncomfortable situation. I was in a situation where my soon-to-be ex-wife was seeming to be trying to keep some very personal possessions and meaningful belongings from me. I thought we were going to be able to have an amicable divorce, and it mostly was, but certain things were made to be very difficult by her. Possessions that she knew where very special to me and were worth a lot more than just their physical value, she was seeming to want to keep from me. This was completely unreasonable because the specific possession I am speaking of was an inheritance from my Grandparents and had nothing to do with her. Clovis Gregor made sure that this did not happen. He asked me many, many questions and was able to know my sincerity. He took the time to get to know me and to get to know my specific situation. I am sure every client has a very unique and special situation. That was my case too. Up to the very last minute- Clovis Gregor protected me. Even on the day of the court case, he made sure we had a private place to get me prepared and ready- to know what to say and try to make me feel more comfortable. My soon-to-be ex-wife got "in his face" right before we went into the court. He politely, respectfully and calmly asked her to step away and handled the uncomfortable situation in a very nice way, I was very grateful for his help at that moment. In the end, I am very satisfied with his services and highly recommend, without hesitation, that he be hired as a divorce lawyer by someone who needs a compassionate and knowledgeable attorney. Sincerely, Ron Runner

Attorney Clovis Gregor was extremely helpful with my employment dispute case with my former employer. I was denied unemployment benefits by my employer and Attorney Gregor successfully appealed the decision and got it reversed and I got my benefits. He also successfully helped with a former rental lease contract dispute with my former landlord. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Pawtucket, Rhode Island?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
