When I was put under investigation with my Command pending Court Martial, I didn't know who to turn to for help. Thankfully I came across MJA's law firm website and immediately hired Mr. Hill after consultation and looking over their reviews. After 7 long months of waiting, the week of my Court Martial came and I would see the fearlessness and confidence of Mr. Hill in the courtroom. He tore apart the government's theory piece by piece which would result in the outcome in our favor. I trusted him with my career on the line, and he was outstanding. I 10/10 would highly recommend Mr. Hill to anyone who is going through legal challenges with their command.

I was fortunate to stumble upon Mr. Hill during my initial search for legal representation back in September of 2021. My command suspected me of disobeying a lawful order and started processing me for separation. Through the diligent work of Mr. Hill and his fellow associates, the Administrative Separations Board members determined 'No Basis' for the allegations against me. It was a direct result of the countless hours Mr. Hill put into the written matters of the case that paved the road to victory. Every 6105 and adverse fit-rep the command issued was subsequently countered and torn apart. Mr. Hill is an unrelenting force within the legal sphere, working until the work is done. If not for the dedication to craft, that Mr. Hill demonstrates on a daily basis, the outcome of the case would have been significantly different. If you are seeking legal assistance, seek no further. You have already found the best.

Josh was great in explaining our options, providing us with a detailed plan and supported us during the entire process. He executed our plan and provided follow up to help us manage our expectations. He frequently checked in with us and addressed and issues and concerns. He was engaged right up to the very end.

Josh laid a course of action to petition against a "titling" from a military investigation on my criminal record and worked diligently through every step of the process to make my case. It was an uphill battle, requiring us to petition at each level of authority. It didn't come quickly and certainly not without effort - but Josh Hill brought in a big win for me that will have a positive change for the rest of my life. He was open & honest from the start, didn't make any promises & was real about what we were up against. What I appreciate about Josh is that he knows what he's doing. I consulted with other attorneys & it seemed like a cash grab with them - but with Josh I could tell he had experience. There was a good chance my petition could have been denied, but Josh worked it through to put up the best fight we could & it really paid off.

I reached out to MJA in February 2022 after receiving my denial for a vaccine related religious accommodation. I was faced with involuntary separation and was totally out of my league. Josh and Gerry were extremely helpful and well-prepared to address my appeal on very short notice. I'm so thankful for this service, I would have been completely lost without them- Cpl, USMC

Deverall Law represented me, a British Citizen, in applying for and gaining resident status in the United States. At all times during the process I found Aimee to be technically/legally very competent while demonstrating a sense of commitment and caring. My well being and obtaining the desired outcome was her prime focus. I would highly recommend her and her team to anyone seeking residency in the United States.

I found Aimee on my google search (was important to be close to our home). From the first time Aimee were very welcoming, interested in our whole process, in our story, she paid attention on every single detail and informed us. We started our whole process in may (or so), and in 4 months because of her incredible knowledge and information i received my permanent residency card. We cant be more grateful for her. She has been in touch with us with every single little info, or update to make sure we received every paper from USCIS. If you want to make sure, your any kind of case will be in a strong knowledge, helpful lawyer, your person is Aimee. No doubt. Thank you so much!!!! :)

I began using Regina some 10 years ago for a jointly owned real estate transaction, and she has been my attorney-of-choice since then. From real estate closings and leases, to contract disputes, to business setups, to general consultations, to debt collection and copyright protection, Regina has done it all for me. She communicates to me in clear, everyday language, and is a veritable pit bull when it comes to defending my position on contracts, debt collections and copyright violations. There's a reason I stopped lawyer-shopping when I first began working with Regina...she's perfect for me.

It is never pleasant dealing with a legal matter, but Rich Peacock made us feel at ease immediately and truly cares for his clients as people and not a case number. He was always available to answer any questions we had and kept us informed of any changes or new developments in the case. He is also well respected in the local courts which was evident as we sat in the courtroom. Rich's positive attitude helped to put our fears at ease. We are so thankful that we chose him to represent us. I would not hesitate to recommend Rich for any type of legal situation that may arise. I believe that his demeanor is evident of a positive experience no matter what legal advice may be needed.

Richard has been representing us for a very important case. Through out the whole thing he has always been on top of everything. He is always willing to meet and talk over any concerns or issues we have. He gives you the truth about your situation and all the details so you are comfortable with the law and what is going on in court. It is always important that you can trust who is representing you and Richard is that person. I never doubt his opinion or advice or what he needs to do to help a case. Richard is also very knowledgeable, which as anyone knows very important. He knows his law!!!! He takes pride in his cases and his clients. I would never use anyone else and I could never thank him enough for what he has done for us.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bluffton, South Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
