This firm came highly recommended and I am completely satisfied with my results. From the day I hired them I felt a weight lifted and also felt I was in good hands. I could not have asked for a better outcome in the subject matter. I highly recommend this firm.

A former partner of mine got a DUI and needed the services of a lawyer. We shopped around and Mr. Kulp was the most knowledgeable and competent of them all. He knew the technicalities of the breathalyzer machines, he went above and beyond to acquire data, and he saved their future career. You can easily find a cheaper DUI lawyer in this town, but I promise you can't find a better DUI lawyer in the state.

I consulted with 15 lawyers and hired 2 two lawyers prior to finding Mr. Forman. Not only was he able to finally put an end to my horrific 2.5 year divorce case, but he did it quickly and at a fraction of the cost. He is a man of few words and a man of action. He was extremely accessible and shattered the norm for how poorly my previous lawyers treated me. Mr. Forman spotted helpful issues that my other attorneys didn’t, and he strategized in a way that moved my case forward quickly, negotiating a settlement offer I am extremely happy with. My biggest regret was not hiring him sooner. Don’t waste your time looking any further than Mr. Forman!

Greg successfuly negotiated an alimony settlement for me. His tactics were direct, efficient and incisive. You won't be coddled or given warm fuzzies, but this man will get your job done and it will likely cost you less than predicted. I will recommend him to anyone seeking legal assistance in the family law arena.

From day one I can tell you that David Lail took my case on just like I was a family member. David and his entire firm treated me extremely well and treated my case like it was the only one they had when I know they juggle so many. When an attorney takes on a case and has so much compassion for a person and their genuine well being from after injury and through everything until the end of the case that is "EXCELLENCE!" I hope that nothing every happens to me again but I know where I would go if it did. There is no other attorney I would recommend besides David. Their office is an amazing team and they all work so well together. I never felt like I was bothering them with my multiple questions or anything that came up. I cannot praise them enough for their wonderful and hard work on my case. All I can do is say Thank You! And I was extremely thankful I called the right number in my time of need.

Best Lawyer Ever! Attorney Lail and his team are outstanding! Attorney Lail is a sharp planner and really cares for his clients. He is very knowledgeable with insurance adjusters when they don't look out for your best interest, and he knew how to use this to our advantage. I can highly recommend him!

Jason assisted us in getting our trademark published and devised an ingenious solution to overcome the initial rejection from the USPTO. His extensive knowledge, clear guidance, and genuine interest in our business made the process seamless. He also helped us resolve an issue amicably when another business filed an opposition to our trademark registration. I highly recommend his services!

Working with Jason was a real pleasure. He was both very personable and professional. Instead of meeting with a stranger, I almost felt like I was having a casual, yet serious, conversation with a family member. He took care of my issue quickly and completely. Absolutely zero regrets or concerns, and I would recommend him to anyone (including my real family)!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Charleston, South Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
