* * * * * * I am writing this review voluntarily (not requested to do so) because as the paying client / plaintiff in a torts case, the results were truly amazing using this attorney. For emphasis, I consulted with Charles T. Deal and Pamela Deal outside of Avvo for my own representation.  This review of Attorney Deal, who was representing me in a billable and client-paid capacity on my legal case, has served as my lawyer fully-engaged in consultation with me for a specific legal matter (for emphasis) involving me directly. ..... REVIEW ..... Mr. Deal: - provided zealous advocacy to me as his client. - He is very comfortable to work with; - He demonstrated extensive subject matter experience in my legal case; - As Plaintiff, he put me at ease and he put the Defense lawyers on serious notice about a favorable resolution being reached with urgency and by necessity; - He speaks to me as his client in layman's language so I can easily understand; - He is very responsive to me as his client and generates deliverable/s very timely; - He is very respectful and kind; - He exhibited empathy for me as his paying client and had my back in dealing with lawyers on the other side; and, - He produces RESULTS. This reviewer is both the payor and the client...where all interests were inseparably aligned. DJ (Ga)

I have used Ann on a new purchase and a refi and both times it was seamless and easy. Her staff is friendly and the office gives you a warm "at home" feeling. I will continue to operate with Ann Sullivan for years to come.

We closed on our property December 2 and our closing paperwork was supposed to be mailed to us. Today is December 17 and we have yet to see paperwork. We live one town away. It’s scary that in this day an age a “lawyer” could be so careless with someone’s information. The closing itself was very uncomfortable. Ms Sullivan was a tad rude. Thank goodness we have our own lawyer we would never use this law office again!

It's funny to me because with this being such a important case to me I feel like he did not take it serious and then going on to this website I see that you've been doing the exact same thing over the course of years here I am paying you money to be my lawyer and I haven't even so much as seen a smoke signal from you you will not answer the phone I have talked to your little receptionist or whoever he is an answer the phone more than I have spoke to you not a good image for yourself I wish I would have read this before I came to your office.

My complaint is the same as the 2 reviews that are already on here. Paid upfront, doesn't return calls or emails and hasn't been in his office any of the times I've gone by. Very unprofessional service. Do NOT Recommend.

Very poor rating would have given him 1/2 a star if it would have let me. I paid Nima the full amount that he had asked me to pay and after almost 4 years I'm still waiting on my divorce, A simple divorce kids are grown now so no child support asked. He fails to file paperwork with the courts on time,That is if he files them at all. Doesn't answer calls or return them. That is IF you can leave a message due to his voicemail always being full. He never answers your emails.I've dropped by his office to attempt to contact him in that manner; hasn't been there. Not easy to fire a guy you can never reach.I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Clemson, South Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
