I hired Kelly in Sept of 2020 after paying her almost $300 for a consultation. She sounded OUTSTANDING, so I went with her. Oh what a miserable life changing choice that was! Kelly is AWFUL! She ignored my calls and e-mails for months at a time, all while charging me to read them, and I had to BEG her to contact me! Then when she finally connected, she told me more BS lies telling me what I wanted to hear. We had to mediate TWICE, her separation agreement is unclear, and while I asked many questions, she acted like the questions were dumb and there wouldn’t be a problem with the paperwork. WRONG! I’m still dealing with my ex telling me I owe for things and we honestly have no idea, because nothing was discussed or put on paper. My ex owed me a lot of back money and 4 mo prior to my one yr separation coming to a close, I asked how I can get my money back and tie up my divorce at the year mark (June of 2021) Let’s just say, I got more bills, nothing accomplished for the next 11 months! I had to fire her finally at the end of Dec 2022 because my divorce was NEVER GOING TO BE FINALIZED. (My one year separation was June 6 2021!) a year and 1/2 later and I was no closer, just more in the hole financially to KELLY. I finally put my foot down, went to her office, demanded money back and for her to show me what she’d done, since none of her promised documents were ever sent to me aside from a crappy separation agreement. As soon as I was onto her….she up and QUITS Collins family law, and starts her OWN business! NOW, Collins Family Law is getting the brunt of my frustration and as they have paid me several thousand back for her errors, it’s nowhere close to the amount she STOLE from me by making promises and not delivering. If u decide to go with her, TAKE NOTES ON TIMES AND DATES OF MEETINGS ETC WATCH YOUR INVOICES FOR ACCURACY HOLD HER TO HER WORD STAY ON HER She will say crap like, “I won’t email unless I have news or something to tell you…I don’t want you to be charged unnecessarily” Which is short for, “don’t call me, I’m not doing anything for you and I don’t want to be caught”. She took advantage of me in my desperate time of need and I’m STILL paying the price 3yrs later. Please save yourself time and MONEY and go with someone else!! I promise you will be better off!!

I was highly disappointed in this attorney. She promised she would do all this stuff for me during our consultation but after I paid the retainer, she became unresponsive and hard to get a hold of. She is way over priced, she was not the shark I needed. She was also late for every single encounter we had. She rescheduled 4 meetings. She didn't send over forms she said she would. She was scatterbrained and had horrible bedside manner in a very stressful time for me. During mediation all she could talk about was her 2 children and how much back to school shopping they did and how they went out for breakfast (hence why she was late that day) while I was in the middle of a high-conflict custody battle against my ex. She didn't clearly explain my options and my rights and what I can do. She was not fully prepared for my mediation. She did not seem very connected in the community. My exes lawyer was unfortunately, way better then her.

Kelly has helped me with an extremely difficult family and custody matter. She has looked out for our best interest, gotten us what we needed, gave me great advice and was kind and caring while still being very professional. I continue to recommend her and know she will be there throughout the future issues that may arise.

I highly recommend Ralph Baldino, he is extremely easy to work with and helped me promptly resolve a legal issue. Ralph does a great job communicating and made sure I was informed throughout the entire legal process. Ralph will be the first attorney I contact should I need any legal services in the future.

If I had not hired this firm then I would not have gotten the settlement I deserved. The insurance companies make it very difficult to get the necessary medical treatment expenses paid for, but when I hired Bice Law they got everything covered plus wage loss covered and a great settlement. I recommend them to anyone injured in a car accident?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Mill, South Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
