I would recommend the Charlie Condon Law Firm to anyone that is looking for top representation in any legal matter. I came to them with a very complex case and the outcome was much better than expected. It was obvious from the beginning that they were looking out for my best interest. They thoroughly went through all the facts and took into consideration the many moving parts of the case, and came up with a course of actions that eventually yielded the best result possible. Their years of experience, extensive knowledge of the law, and the genuine desire to help made them the perfect team to handle my case.

Excellent law firm. Charlie and Emily are the perfect team to secure a seamless victory. As a result of a misinterpretation of policy, I found myself in a very precarious situation with a professional licensing board. If I had not chosen Charlie Condon as my attorney, I am certain I would have faced career-damaging consequences. With Charlie Condon, not only did I benefit from his legal expertise but also his stellar reputation, which is known throughout the state of South Carolina (and beyond). My affiliation with Charlie Condon spoke volumes during the Hearing and his prep-work ensured I was fully prepared for questioning; having Charlie by my side allowed my voice to be heard. I hold an unencumbered license and my reputation is intact thanks to Charlie Condon.

I needed top notch legal assistance and I was fortunate enough to call the Charlie Condon Law Firm. They had a wonderful attitude and were the epitome of pleasant during my entire time working with them. Charlie and Emily know exactly what they are doing and they do so professionally and with care every step of the way. Charlie knows the ins and outs of the legal system and utilizes his extensive experience to provide the best service possible. I honestly received a much better resolution than I could have possibly hoped for originally; and anyone who has had dealings with the law before knows that is basically unheard of. Everyone I interacted with there made me feel comfortable and at ease despite going through a very stressful and tumultuous time in my life. I would give 6 stars if I could. I highly recommend them for any legal assistance one might need, and I would happily use them again if the need ever arises. Thank you so much Charlie and Emily, I could not have asked for better legal advice, more compassion, nor a better resolution to my legal situations. I have never had such a positive experience working with a law firm and I doubt I ever will again. Keep doing amazing work, the Lowcountry is blessed to have you!

I was recently a seller at a real estate closing and Amber Deutsch presided over the closing. I have been a party in 18 closings and I can honestly say that this was the best-run closing I have ever attended. She was prepared and thorough. She covered every base and made the whole process easy for everyone at the table. I greatly appreciated the wonderful job she did and would recommend her to anyone. I had a bad experience with a different attorney who is connected to the title company, but I have no idea if she is part of that firm or not. Irregardless, I heartily recommend Amber's talents to anyone who needs them.

John Townsend Cooper is an exceptional Mari-Time attorney, which always had my best interest at the forefront of all things in my case. While I can't really speak of other cases but through the time we spent together, I can say that I feel I gained a friend through this experience that I was going through. John townsend cooper was very punctual, honest, well spoken even when situations were not so pleasent. John is also a very easy going, mild mannered man that showed me that that he's very tolerable with some unruly characters, even when I got a little outta hand, he has ways to shine a light of a calmer voice of compasion and very understanding that always seemed to bring a brighter side to what sometimes seemed difficult situations at the time. John always handled himself and my case with dignity and a since of assurance that no matter how things appeared, his knowledge and experience would prevail. Confidence in my opinion is a key thing to have, and his confidence really in my opinion is what projected my case to the victory that we experienced.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
